THE K.I.S.S. PROJECT KEEP IT SIMPLE SISTERS Designed to inspire women, as the family leader, to get healthy and encourage their family to eat better and be more active. Program focuses on group behavioral counseling, skill building fitness classes, and healthy family nutrition instruction.
FIT KIDS Certified trainers work with the children ages 6-14 to provide group trainings that are designed to be fun but very active for one hour twice a week. The 8 week curriculum includes a 15 minute introduction and warm-up consisting of light jogging, agility drills, and stretching, a 30 minute work out of the day consisting of a full body work out using body weight movements, 15-20 minutes of cardiovascular activity

Potential Solutions for Challenges • More coalition-building work at the front end between providers and community (children + parents + teachers and other caregivers) to deepen understanding of needs, preferences, habits, etc. • Develop jobs training program element for older youth to support expansion of GRoW • Build critical mass of partners by linking anti-obesity efforts with other efforts to create whole child pipeline • Leverage Advisory Council as springboard towards Key Partners, Social Impact Bond and Community investment

If only I had known • How many surveys we would have to do and how hard it is to collected them… • How hard it is for a good idea that everyone likes to get momentum for implementation • How the delay of local government and organizations following their own rules delays the over all progress – we didn’t plan for that in our timeline….

Back ckground • Fit NOLA increases access to physical activity and healthy foods in three New Orleans neighborhoods: • Physical Activity: • Increase multi-generational physical activity options at parks • Increase safety at the parks • Improve the infrastructure of parks • Nutrition: • Provide fruit and vegetable prescriptions to patients at community clinics • Increase the availability of healthy snacks at park concession stands
