Rationale Three key aspects: Central role of teachers and teaching quality in raising achievement (OECD, 2005; OFSTED, 2006; WHO, 2011) Teachers feel they are not adequately prepared to support students with SEN (Ware et al, 2011; Kinsella et al, 2014; Fortin, 2010; Tangen,2005) One in four Irish school children have a learning or special education need (Banks and McCoy, 2011).
Objectives Two objectives To identify and categorise CPD available to teachers in Ireland To provide a single source of information on CPD for teachers
Process Identify provision Collect detail Categorise in line with agreed template Verify information Populate data base Draft report
CPD – What’s included? Start broad – narrow later: Open to all teachers Focused on inclusion, broadly defined Wide range of themes / approaches Overseas provision supported by SESS
Breadth of provision Post-graduate programmes Term-time short courses Summer courses Evening / weekend seminars One off / repeated / annual provision
Outputs A summary report overviewing current provision and highlighting issues A user-friendly updateable electronic database containing profiles of individual opportunities
Timeframe November 2015: Project commences May 2016: First draft for review
