R ESEARCH AND S TUDENT S UCCESS Brandon Walls ● 2018 Regent Scholar Award recipient for his dedication and passion for research in synthetic organic chemistry. ● Brandon excelled in building his research skills under the guidance of Nevada State College chemistry professor, Dr. Zachary Woydziak, receiving two grants. ● He will be attending University of Arizona for his MD/PhD.
R ESEARCH AND S TUDENT S UCCESS Amanda Consul ● Completed independent research with Dr. Amber Howerton. ● Accepted into UNLV’s graduate program in chemistry. ● Received $4,000 grant to study liver enzymes. ● Presented her undergraduate research at the American Chemical Society regional meeting in Galveston, Texas.
U NDERGRADUATE R ESEARCH ● Dr. Wendi Benson (Psychology) helped students analyze real-world data and furnish recommendations for local businesses/organizations. ● Dr. Zachary Woydziak (Chemistry) guides students through development of unique molecules that may inform medical research on cancer treatments.
F ACULTY R ESEARCH AND THE C OMMUNITY ● Dr. Kevin Graziano (Education) recently published an article exploring the experiences of preservice teachers who facilitated learning in a flipped classroom. ● Dr. Peter LaChapelle (History) used his Oral History classes to help students record stories about the development of early Henderson that are showcased in area libraries. ● Ms. Dawn Koonkongsatian (Nursing) and colleagues recently published an article looking at how the race/ethnicity of patients affects doctors’ clinical decision -making.
