  5. Athlete Expectations It is a privilege to play for Brookville Schools, and it must be treated as such. Wearing “BROOKVILLE” on the front of a jersey means you accept the responsibility for your actions not only on the field or court, but also in the classroom and in the community. As an BLUE DEVIL, you are a role model, for younger children looking up to you for inspiration in their sport, or by anyone in the community who needs to see that good values exist here and that a healthy balance between athletics and academics can be achieved by those that put forth the effort. You must accept that you have placed yourself, by your own accord, in the public arena. This can be difficult to handle, but I challenge you to live up to the expectations!

  6. AND Now the Fun Begins! Welcome to some of the greatest years of your child’s life...We have so much to offer them in Brookville Schools both Academically and Athletically… Choosing to participate in school based athletics in grades 7-12 truly is an experience of a lifetime! Playing rival schools, (and beating them) hearing your name on the morning announcements, being a part of something bigger than yourself, and representing your community are just a couple of the many things to look forward to here in Brookville!

  10. Athletic Code of Conduct Points of Emphasis (1) Academic Eligibility (Local Policy) High School – Students are required to maintain no less than a 2.0 grade point average per quarter to remain eligible. Additionally students must have received passing grades in a minimum of five, one- credit courses or the equivalent which count toward graduation during the preceding grading period. Junior High – Students are to maintain no less than a 2.0 quarterly grade point average in order to remain eligible. Additionally, to be eligible, a 7 th or 8 th grade student must have received passing grades in a minimum of five of all subjects, including CCP, in which enrolled the immediate preceding grading period.

  11. Athletic Code of Conduct Points of Emphasis (2) Academic Eligibility Continued….. Weekly Eligibility - Weekly eligibility standards will be maintained. Weekly eligibility is based on the cumulative grade to the beginning of the term. A student receiving more than one “F” on the weekly eligibility report will be ruled ineligible for the following week(s). This is applicable to all courses that offer academic credit. Eligibility will be checked electronically through Progress Book at 8:00 a.m. every Friday to determine student eligibility for the following week. Students not meeting the weekly standards will be ruled ineligible for the following Monday through Sunday. Eligibility will be restored to students on the Monday following a week of ineligibility providing academic requirements have been met.

  12. Athletic Code of Conduct Points of Emphasis (3) Attendance As a general rule, any athlete who does not attend a full school day will not participate in a practice/game that day unless prior approval is granted by a school administrator. Exceptions will be granted for students who sign in late as long as they are in attendance by 9:30 a.m. Repeated exceptions may not be granted to students who sign out ill, regardless of how many periods they attend. Students who sign out for an appointment must receive approval from a school administrator before participation in a practice/game that day. Any exceptions to this policy regardless of the circumstances will be the decision of the school administration.

  13. Athletic Code of Conduct Points of Emphasis (4) Commitment to HS or JH Team Athletes are expected to be at practices and contests unless they have a valid reason for missing. Vacations are not encouraged during a sport’s season. The Head Coach’s rules will prevail in the event of such missed practices or contests. Athletic Department philosophy when it comes to commitment: ○ All players are expected to attend all practices (unless ill) ○ You are a member of a team and others are counting on you ○ Communication is vital -- no call no show is not acceptable ○ Missing practice (excused or unexcused) will directly affect your playing time

  14. Athletic Code of Conduct Points of Emphasis (5) Transportation Students participating in interscholastic athletic activities associated with the team are required to ride district transportation to and from events. If a student must ride from a contest with parents because of family commitments, the student must have a Trip Release Form signed by the parent with written confirmation by the student activities director/administrator. This form must be presented to the coach prior to leaving for the contest. 2020-2021 Athletic Trip Release Form

  15. Athletic Code of Conduct Points of Emphasis (6) Registering a Concern Communication with a coach is important. There may be situations that require a conference between a coach and parent. The following chain of communication is the procedure that must be followed. Step 1 – Athlete speaks directly to their coach ( Athlete’s should always be the first point of contact with a coach if he or she has a question about the program.) Step 2 – Should further communication be needed…. a parent should call the coach to set up an appointment. Step 3 – Again, should further communication be needed…a parent should call the Student Activities Director to set up an appointment. **An athlete or parent should NEVER contact a coach about issues before, during, or after a contest/event.

  16. Athletic Code of Conduct Points of Emphasis (7) Registering a Concern Continued… Apppropriate Concerns to Discuss with Coaches: - The treatment of your child, mentally / physically - Ways to help your child improve - Concerns about your child’s behavior - College options / recruiting Issues NOT appropriate to Discuss With Coaches: - Team Strategy - Play Calling - Other Student Athletes

  17. Brookville Local Schools are a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association and will abide by all rules and regulations established by the OHSAA. Please review the PowerPoint presentation provided by the OHSAA at ohsaa.org under “School Resources”. OHSAA Presentation Points of Emphasis: - Seventh- and eighth-grade students who turn 15 before August 1st are also ineligible for 7th and 8th grade sports but MAY BE eligible to participate in high school athletics. - You will be ineligible if you are a member of a school team competing on a non-school team in the same sport during your school team’s season (example: club soccer team during school’s soccer season). - Should you have transferred to Brookville, you must ensure all applicable paperwork has been submitted to the OHSAA AND the state office has granted approval for eligibility.
