  15. Emergency Procedures • Each team will need to nominate two participants to bring their phone. These will be kept in rucksack and left on. • Leaders carry copies of ALL the teams route plans and route outlines. Leaders also carry copies of all medical and contact information. • Designated check points / drop points where students will be checked while under remote supervision. • Leaders will also ‘pop up’ on their team along the routes. • All teams will carry emergency cards with their leaders number on. • Teams are meant to have no contact with the outside world! If they do they fail! Hence why we ask you to keep it in your rucksack. • We suggest each person brings a card with key numbers on in case they need them. • Students have completed training in what to do in an emergency – we trust them to use that training.

  16. Food, Medication, Equipment • Food – teams will plan their menus before the expedition. They will need to purchase the food for their team. Has to be nutritious e.g. can’t be pot noodles! No Nuts. • Medication – must be carried by the students. Leaders will be aware of medical conditions. The team mates also need to be made aware of any conditions within their team so they can respond accordingly while under remote supervision. • Equipment – list issued in September and on website. Discount cards. Group kit includes tent, group first aid kit, maps, trangia, group shelter, gas, maps etc. We have limited rucksacks (11). Must have own boots, waterproofs and sleeping bag. • All group kit must be returned cleaned and dried after the assessed expedition.

  17. Behaviour • Please read and sign the code of conduct. • Students are expected to be sensible while on expedition. • Students are completing an award – if they don’t behave appropriately, they fail. • We have external assessors and leaders with us the whole time who expect the highest standards of behaviour. • Camping has to be sensible – in own tents, getting up about 6am as it takes roughly 2 hours to cook breakfast and pack up camp. Torches off and quiet by 10pm. Camp area should be spotless and all kit kept in tents. If we have to intervene at camp then they fail. • Pen knifes yes but only the D of E issue one. • No lighters or aerosol cans even deodorant ones! • You are being assessed constantly, you won’t always know your leader is watching you!

  18. Final Checklist • Students should be signing off their sections • Attend all training sessions on Saturday 13 th May and then the assessed route planning sessions during lunch over the following weeks. • Return medical confirmation form and code of conduct on Saturday 13 th May. • Get equipment together and wear boots in. • Sit down with your leader to plan your meals and divvy up who is brining what. • Get ready for expeditions!
