OUR CURRICULUM The Ofsted framework requires that schools offer a ‘broadly academic curriculum that also meet the needs of pupils within the school’ We offer a suite of GCSE courses across a wide range of subjects and Level 2 Vocational Awards in: • Business • ICT • Hospitality & Catering • Sport Studies
CORE CURRICULUM The vast majority of students will follow a common core curriculum of: SUBJECT NO. OPTION SUBJECTS 1. You will add 3 option subjects to your core curriculum - This will be based on ‘free choice’ 2. Each option subject has 5 lessons every 2 weeks NB: Please note the advice regarding Technology and Art courses

ENGLISH BACCALAUREATE This is a measure introduced by the government to increase the uptake of ‘academic’ subjects It involves studying a GCSE course in: • English • Maths • Sciences • History or Geography • Foreign Language NB: No additional certificate or qualification

QUALIFICATION CHANGES All GCSEs for Y9: 1. Are linear, i.e. terminal exams in the summer term of Y11 2. There is a vastly reduced emphasis on Controlled Assessment, i.e. coursework 3. Graded 1-9, with 9 being the highest grade

CHOOSING WELL Don’t choose based on the teacher you currently have or copy friends Consider: • Career choice (if you have a clear idea) • What you enjoy • What you are interested in • What you are good at • Maintaining a range of courses
OPTIONS FORMS Choose your top five in rank order, i.e. No. 1 is first choice, No. 2 is second choice and so on… We will make every effort to ensure you get your top three. Where a problem exists a senior member of staff will discuss this with your son/daughter in the first instance. Return the completed form to your Form Tutor by 9.15am on Friday, 20 March 2020
