This presentation is to help you, as potential end users of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and Safety Equipment take on board some of the changes in the supply chain of PPE. Since April 2018 we have a new Regulation covering the supply of Personal Protection Equipment. At the end of this presentation you will have a better understanding of this important industry sector and I will show how you too can be involved in its future

British Safety Industry Federation - General Use - Not Encrypted The New PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 • In force from 21 April 2016 • Applicable from 21 April 2018, when Directive was repealed • Products CE marked under the Directive can be supplied until 21 April 2019 • EC type-examination certificates remain valid until • 21 April 2023 unless they expire before that date • All new EU type certificates will be valid for 5 years. Under the old Directive this was left open ended? Which is good BUT there is no need for products to be reviewed if no changes have occurred. British Safety Industry Federation - General Use - Not Encrypted Under the Old PPE Directive 89/686/EEC Manufacturers had all the legal responsibilities of product compliance ongoing, and was very much open to national interpretation. The new ‘Regulation’ has shifted up several gears with new Legally binding Responsibilities and Obligations : • New term: ‘Economic Operators’ – Manufacturer, Authorised Representative, Importer or Distributor • With new obligations – Record keeping and verification obligations up and down the supply chain Importers and Distributors who market PPE under their own name or brand assume all the obligations of a Manufacturer Supporting those businesses that help keep people safe and healthy at work

British Safety Industry Federation - General Use - Not Encrypted General Obligations on Economic Operators (the people you buy from) • An EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC) must accompany each item of PPE, or include a web address where the DoC can be accessed. The user instructions must be with the product also & in the language of the end user country • Economic operators must keep the technical documentation and the DoC for 10 years after the PPE has been placed on the market • Manufacturers shall ensure that procedures are in place for series production to remain in conformity Supporting those businesses that help keep people safe and healthy at work

British Safety Industry Federation - General Use - Not Encrypted Obligations on Distributors • Shall act with due care. • Shall verify that the PPE bears the correct markings and is accompanied by the required documents in a language that can be easily understood by the consumers. • Shall not make PPE available in the market if the PPE is considered not to meet the essential health & safety requirements. • Shall ensure that records of conformity are kept for 10 year period • Shall ensure transport and storage does not jeopardize the PPE’s conformity • Shall take corrective actions in case PPE is considered to be non-compliant and inform the competent authorities in case PPE presents a risk Supporting those businesses that help keep people safe and healthy at work
