IN INTRODUCTION • Arsi University was established at end of 2014. • Currently the University has 5 colleges and one School. • There are around 9156 undergraduate students ,and 853 post graduate students • Academic Staff Profile • Total number of academic staffs are 656, among these, • Staff on duty: • Ph .D holder : 69 • MSc/MA holder : 378 • BSc/BA : 20 • Staff on study leave • For PhD: 116 • For specialty: 54 • For MSc/MA : 19
INTRODUCTION... Cont’d Since its establishment, 2014, Arsi university has been carried out various community service activities to achieve the following goals: To improve the livelihoods of the community by Training competent and responsive professionals who can address the community’s problems through innovative and practical means. To contribute to societal development by providing services, consultancy and through training of responsive professionals. To strengthen partnerships and linkages with local and national institutions for the purpose of rendering community services.
Accordingly, demand driven and multidisciplinary community services have been given for communities of the Arsi Zone and other nearby zones. Generally, community services have been provided in areas of: Health aspects of the society Maternal and children health care Cervical Cancer Screening Service for women of vulnerable age groups (21-65 years) Hygiene and Sanitation Nutrition HIV AIDS Prevention and Control Strengthening health extension , etc Agriculture and Environment • Improving dairy production and Productivity • Improving Animal feed and feeding • Integrated poultry , fish and Vegetables • Promotion and Distribution of transitional and Modern bee hives for farmers • Enhancing Highland crop production and productivity • Promotion of vermi-compost technology • Water shed Management in the Ziway lake and surrounding areas • Value chain Management of Dairy, vegetables, and tubers • Poverty reduction in rural areas
Education • Life skills training for female students of High school and preparatory schools • Technical and financial Support of high schools Business and Economics • Entrepreneurship • Strengthening Micro and Small enterprises • Procurement • Eco-tourism Free Legal Services • Till now the centres served for more than 36,258 persons and the service is estimated to be about 12,500,000.00 Birr.
Community service activities have been done in areas of health includes: a. Post Natal Care Provision of Home based postnatal services by midwives.
Promotion of early identification and referral/ management of emergencies for mother and newborns.
Awareness creation of postnatal service utilization to the community.
Strength the capacity of health extension workers’ ability on postnatal services provision
2. Tuberculosis Case Detection and control of its transmission Training of Health Extension Workers, community Leaders, Health Sector Workers Representative to intensify Tuberculosis Case Detection and its control
Optical Services at the University Hospital collaboration with NGOs from abroad
Capacity building training for development agents on artificial insemination.

Creating farmers’ Awareness on the benefits inter cropping system of small cereals with some high land legume crops in high land area
