Marymount University’s Mission Marymount is a comprehensive Catholic university, guided by the traditions of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, that emphasizes intellectual curiosity, service to others, and a global perspective. History  Founded in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary  Originally a two-year college for women (Marymount College of Virginia); 13 students in first year  Introduced baccalaureate programs and admitted male students to selected programs in the early 1970s  Became fully coeducational and changed name to Marymount University in 1986  Introduced first doctoral program in 2004 3

Who are our Student Athletes • Tutors, Camp Counselors, Student leaders, Resident Assistants, Student Ambassadors, Babysitters, Volunteers, Neighbors • 65 Business majors • 25 Criminal Justice majors • More than 20 majors in each in the Biology, Health Science, IT, and Nursing programs • 15 double majors • 10 Pre Med majors 7

Student Athletes Community Service Marymount student-athletes average 4000 hours of service per year, almost all of it in the local community: • Host Special Olympics • Sets for Vets • Childhood Cancer Organizations – vs Cancer, Mason Leach Foundation, Go4theGoal • Serve meals at SOME and collect canned goods (close to or exceeding 1000lbs a year) for AFAC • Future Saints Program is a free learn to swim program for low income Arlington families • Women’s Lacrosse was awarded the 2018 Distinguished Community Service Award from Volunteer Arlington – 3 year volunteer work with Arlington Housing Community tutoring and mentoring children Community Facility Use 8
