2014 Highlights Development • $1.5 Million raised Launch of Admissions Department • 367 prevented from entering shelter • HeARTspeak training for photos at intake Animal Neglect Prevention Program • Hotline set-up in partnership with SI DA and VCA Mobile Adoption Center • Grant from FENWICK KEATS and ASPCA • 411 total: 260 Cats/151 Dogs Behavior Enrichment Program • Dog playgroups
Department Highlight Behavior Enrichment Department “Dogs Playing for Life” Program • ! Began in September with grant from Best Friends • ! 9 days of intense hands-on training with staff/volunteers Immediate Benefits • ! Increased exercise/social time for all dogs • ! Maximize staff time (cleaning and behavior) • ! Improved kennel presentation (calmer/less barking) • ! Improved quality of life lessens stress (less illness) • ! Better match making (more detailed evaluations for adopters/New Hope Partners) • ! Enjoyable and uplifting for staff/volunteers
Department Highlight Behavior Enrichment Department Organization Changes • Increased focus on behavior and training o 24 full-time staff (Behavior & Enrichment, SAFER teams, Playgroup specific teams) • Evaluations include daily playgroup interactions so progress can be noted • Behavior no longer based on single-interaction (SAFER)
Department Highlight Behavior Enrichment Department Individual Animal Changes • On an average day 50-60 dogs participate in playgroups • Animals improving and coming out of their shells with the help of other dogs in playgroups
