  2. Welc lcome e from Mr Mrs s Cass ssid idy Head Teach cher “Welcome to all of our new Year 7 students, and their parents. It is a privilege to be the Head Teacher of this very special school and one of the highlights for me each year is meeting you all in person from September. I know that you will share our high aspirations and hopes for your time with us. We have a strong family ethos with a secure environment in which our young people flourish and excel. You will be joining a wonderfully diverse community with students and families drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and geographical areas. I, along with all of my colleagues, can’t wait to welcome you properly in September when you start your adventure with us.” - Mrs Cassidy

  3. What makes a Successful Transition?

  4. Wh What makes es a Succe ccess ssful Transit ition? When a child feels… • Well prepared • Confident • Happy And is making… • New friends • Good progress • Positive contributions 7A 2019 This is what we are all working towards

  5. How big is the step? • It’s a big step for all children • Some take the step with more confidence than others • They are asked to use skills and make decisions that they have had little experience of before • The majority of children will cope well • We recognise that some children need more support and guidance. This is often to help students with processes of metacognition

  6. Crossley Heath Transition Challenges • High achievers meet more high achievers… • More academic challenge (things might not come so easily)… • Higher frequency of homework… • Increased level of personal responsibility… • Increased need for effective organisational skills… • Everything on a bigger scale… Communication is key to addressing any difficulties at the earliest stage. We like to work with parents and carers to create a ‘Team Around The Child’ (TAC)

  12. My role as Key Stage 3 Pastoral Leader – Mrs Griggs My name is Mrs Griggs and I am the KS3 Pastoral Leader. I work alongside the Progress Leaders for Y7 and Y8. I have worked at Crossley Heath for the past 8 years. My roll involves supporting you with your well-being, punctuality, attendance and behaviour, and to help ensure that transition from Y6 to Y7 is a positive one. I am passionate about providing support and wellbeing at school to help you develop socially, emotionally and academically. I believe every child should feel safe and happy in school and it is my role to provide you with the opportunities, experiences, knowledge, care and support to achieve this. When I’m not at school I love spending time with my 3 children and granddaughter, going on family days out and making treasured memories for them. I also love watching and supporting my favourite football team Tottenham – “Come on the Spurs”!. I am really looking forward to meeting you all in September. Have a good summer and take care. Mrs Griggs

  13. My role as Y7 Progress Leader – Mr Davis I would usually be giving you this information face to face during our transition events and it feels very strange that I can’t do that this term. The Transition Day and Information Evening are real highlights of our school year and we all share the disappointment that these events can’t go ahead. We’ll make up for that in September! For now I would encourage you to keep checking the transition pages of our website for more updates and student information https://www.crossleyheath.org.uk/transition-to-year7/ My role as Progress Leader is to work alongside students, parents/carers, tutors and other members of the Pastoral Team to oversee our students’ positive development. Our main priority is to ensure that our students are happy and feel secure in their transition from their primary schools. Their physical and emotional wellbeing is paramount. I also monitor academic progress across the year group and work with subject staff to help address any areas of need. I am eager to promote the high standards and expectations we have as an outstanding school and also encourage all of our students to participate in the wider opportunities we have available here at Crossley Heath. My pastoral philosophy has always been to work with parents/carers and other supporting adults to create a ‘team around the child’ that can pull together to allow our students to grow to be confident, happy learners that can make the most of their potential.

  14. Safeguarding The school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead: Mr Lee Chesters Assistant Head Pastoral In addition students and parents can talk to any of the following staff about safeguarding: Mrs Lynnette Cassidy Mr Chris Davis Headteacher Y7 Progress Leader/SENCo

  15. Mr Mr Chester ers – Ass ssis istant Head Pastoral Hello everybody! There is my mug shot… apologies. If I knew how often this picture would be used, I may have brushed my teeth and moisturised beforehand. I am very proud to be a part of Crossley Heath and be the Assistant Head of this school. It is genuinely one of the best schools in the country. I really want your children, our children now, to love their time here, we want them to love Crossley Heath - forever! To develop a life long affinity with the school. Yes, it is about academic success, being able to have the qualifications and knowledge to move to their next stage with confidence but it is also about building character and providing opportunities for growth. Fundamentally it is about working together so that our children grow into young people that are in charge of their own destinies and can make a difference to the world. In the meantime we want them to make a positive difference to their school.

  16. ‘CHS Ready’ • Be ready to learn and allow others to learn, engaging fully in lessons. • Show RESPECT to each other, your teachers and all other adults. • Wear your uniform correctly. • Have the correct books and equipment for each lesson. • All work completed to the best of your ability and presented well. • Homework to be handed in on time. • Aim for excellent attendance and punctuality to lessons. • Student Planner and ‘out of lessons’ record card with you each day. • Eat only in designated areas. No chewing gum anywhere. • Look after our environment – put litter in a bin. • Keep to the left on corridors and stairs. • Mobile phones switched off, except for designated times and areas. • Fill your water bottle at break and lunchtimes. • Sign in at reception if you miss morning or afternoon registration. • Leave the site via the back entrance – never the front gate.

  17. ‘ SCHOOL VALUES AND CHARCATER ’ Our school values are meaningful. They are central to the young people we wish to help to develop. We want all our students to contribute positively to their school and communities. Of course each child is an individual and school values can be shown in many ways. But here are some examples of how our values can be seen in the characteristics of our students…
