Second Runway Kellie Roland Airport Planning Manager
The purpose of the Notice of Requirements is to alter the existing designation which permits the construction of a second runway with an overall length of 2150m The alteration to designation is not seeking approval for a new second runway Changes needed include: moving 72 metres further north increasing the length by 833 metres Increasing Obstacle Limitation Surfaces
The OLS extends outwards from the runway centre line restricting the maximum height of obstacles (i.e. buildings, trees) in the airspace surrounding the airport Ensures aircraft maintain a level of safety while maneuvering at a low altitude
Based on demand forecasts, planned to be operational in 2028 Experience in Australia suggests that planning and construction have a ten year lead time Earthworks are estimated to start between 2020 and 2021 Length and staging of the second runway are yet to be determined: potentially an initial stage runway of 2,265m, and a final stage runway of 2,983m. Building a full-length runway in one stage remains a possible option
NoR publicly notified on February 15 Airport’s application will be on the Auckland Council website All Airport Oaks businesses will be directly notified by Auckland Council Public information session on February 29 – The Cloak, Leonard Isitt Drive Submissions close March 15

Maintaining connections to Auckland Airport is fundamental The airport's transport network needs to integrate with the wider regional transport Achieved through a shift in mode of travel, sequence of airport transport network improvements and implementation of demand management strategies
Precinct signal meters – operated collaboratively with Auckland Transport Operations Centre (ATOC) Nixon Road stage one completed – Park and Ride access from southeast Southern Bypass completed late 2018 – will allow heavy vehicles DTB forecourt reconfiguration High occupancy lanes – Tom Pearce Drive
Voluntary accord with National Road Carriers Association Collaborating to reduce the flow of heavy vehicles during peak periods Worked with AT and NZTA on identifying two alternative routes to travel southeast rather than go through the precinct This relies on cooperation with local businesses
