Summary  FAA has been generous in allowing conversion of land to non- aeronautical use  The City was allowed to implement operational restrictions unique to SMO that give the City unusual control over how the airport is used • Curfew • Noise limits • Operational restrictions  Additional opportunities to improve safety and quality of life for residents exist by partnering with the FAA 17

Collaboration – Looking into the Future  Collaborate with FAA on safety enhancements • Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS)  Explore additional ways to reduce noise • Barriers • Sound insulation for homes  Further conversion of Residual Land to non-aeronautical use while ensuring aeronautical activities are accommodated elsewhere on the field 18
