Impact-Heads view “An apprentice has been a really valuable addition to the team. We have seen increased participation in sports and physical activity across the school in a variety of situations from breakfast club to playground leadership, to sports clubs and PE lessons. In addition to all of this they have been available to provide support to children in class lessons as well. A big thank you to the Inspire Plus team for their support and involvement in training and developing these young people.” JM – Head Teacher “We are delighted for our Sports Apprentice to be training with the staff at Inspire+. Our Sports Apprentice is developing well through his formal training days and through experience of working with us at school & colleagues at other schools. Despite only being with us for a few months, he has already had a significant impact in the amount of provision of sporting/physical activity in school and as of a result this has increased the number of [different] participants across the school taking up a sport or being physically active every day. With his additional coaching, our Mixed Football Team came in as runners-up at the recent Large Schools Football Tournament (our highest ranking yet)!” MW – Head Teacher

Understanding the Apprenticeship Levy/Cost Did you know that your school will be paying into the apprenticeship levy if: 1) You are a County Council maintained school 2) You are an academy/academy trust with a payroll exceeding £3m If you are a small sized academy or voluntary aided school you will not be a levy payer. In that case you would just make a small contribution towards the cost of the apprentice’s training due to Government heavily subsiding the costs. Apprenticeship wage from April will be a minimum of £3.90. Salary cost for the year will be around £6,000.
Supporting existing staff The apprenticeship levy can also be used to fund training for existing staff who are involved in the delivery of PE and School Sport Typically aimed at T eaching Assistants, our course is a NVQ Level 3 Diploma in ‘Supporting PE and School Sport’ Training is through distance learning with termly contact sessions. Course length is 18 months
