AIA 2030 Commitment : Architects Prepare to Meet the Challenge
“The raw resource extraction, manufacturing, construction, usage, and end-of-life stages of building products each generate significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Slowing the growth rate of GHG emissions and then reversing it is the key to addressing climate change.” Architecture 2030 founder Edward Mazria 2030 Challenge

1.Gather data a. Project Gross Square Footage (GSF) b. Predicted Energy Use Intensity (EUI) c. Lighting Power Density (LPD) if interior project d. Was the project modeled? (Y/N) e. Will actual energy use data be collected (Y/N) 2. Enter data into worksheet 3. Print worksheet out and submit to AIA National 2030 Commitment
Predicted Energy Use Intensity EUI = kBTU/square foot/year Lighting Power Density LPD = Watts/square foot 2030 Commitment

How to Determine an EUI 2030 Commitment
How to Determine an EUI 1. Check Default Code a. Usually IECC 2006 (20% reduction) IECC 2009 (35% reduction) or IECC 2012 (45% reduction) b. Goal is 60% reduction for 2010-2014 c. Average Midwest EUI for single family is 49.5 d. Therefore, current 2030 goal is 60% reduction = 19.8 2. Calculate Actual EUI a. REScheck is standard for many municipalities. b. Different software programs are available that can do this. 3. What if I can’t calculate the EUI? a. Submit code compliant amounts (20%, 35% or 45%) 2030 Commitment
