Getting back to normal we know it has been very difficult for everyone • People have been worried about health, money, support, loneliness and much more • It has been scary to see health and care staff wear protective masks, gloves and gowns • People have missed doing things they enjoy and seeing people they care about • Family carers told us they are worried about support falling away www.hertfordshire.gov.uk

What has the council done in response to the outbreak? • Focused on support for people and carers • Given support and guidance to care providers, Money, PPE ( Masks, gloves. Gowns) • Care Provider Hub (contact area) set up early to assist and advise providers • Care Recruitment Service arranged and paid for • Co- ordination of volunteers to Operation ‘Shield’ and ‘Sustain’ www.hertfordshire.gov.uk
What has the council done in response to the outbreak? • Supported the NHS in their response • Early emotional wellbeing support for all care staff • Used flexible working and technology to keep services running • Refurbished two former care homes as safe places for people www.hertfordshire.gov.uk
And this won’t end quickly for some… • People living in care homes are likely to be shielded for another year • Social contact will be limited and physical distancing will continue • Places of leisure likely to be the last to reopen • Public transport affected • Some care providers may go out of business www.hertfordshire.gov.uk
And this won’t end quickly for some… • There may be a second wave of coronavirus to deal with • Families will return to work, leaving others at home with less support • There will be mental health and wellbeing after effects on people • People’s health will have got worse during the Covid-19 period www.hertfordshire.gov.uk

How has Covid-19 changed our work? There has been big changes to new requests compared to last year: • Less ‘new’ needs assessments • Less ‘new’ contacts • Less ‘new’ concerns www.hertfordshire.gov.uk
1. Supporting people, carers and communities recover from Covid-19 (Coronavirus) • Prioritise assessments and reviews of people who begin to need, or continue to need, care and support • Build plans on Connected Lives approach. What we’ve learnt about our communities in supporting people • Make sure adults are safeguarded, services return to being high quality and we spot risks • Agree a plan for re-opening the services closed. 2. Supporting our adult social care staff and care providers • Support our colleagues (staff) mental health and well- being • Work ‘SMART’ and safely to get closer to our communities • Consider the needs of colleagues from black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds who appear at higher risk from the virus, make reasonable adjustments • Prioritise our transformation programme. 3.
