  1. About Me Married for 26 years. One Daughter- grown  Moved back home from New Orleans Spoiled Cauchy Cat  Now a GSD as well! Teaching for 19years 12 in CUSD. 

  2. Geometry What is it?  Properties of Figures  Note: Some Plane students find Solid geometry a bit  Algebra intimidating at first because it tends Used throughout to be less ‘cookie  Reasoning cutter’ or recipe Logic based in the solution methods Formal Proof than previous Constructions math courses.  Communication

  3. Curriculum  Hybrid of traditional lessons & Investigative Activities.  Prepare students for the ACT and SAT exams in their future in addition to subsequent courses.  Requires more writing and explanation than parents may remember from math class.  Many concepts are taught within a context and then reinforced as necessary by traditional means.

  4. Investigations & Notes  Students will be given notes templates or take notes using the Cornell style in class.  Investigations will be handed out for students to complete in class (individually, or with partners/groups).  These must be kept in a 3 ring binder for later reference.  Students will also have sections for glossary terms and postulates/theorems to be used in proof writing.

  5. We have textbooks (sort of)  Texts for use in class. (1/2 class set)  Each Student will get Full Electronic Access to the text.  Full Print version  Extra Practice WSs  Interactive Lessons (similar to the printed text)  Video Lessons  Adaptive Tutoring Application

  6. Geometry Assignments  Students will need to download (print) their textbook HW. This should be done in advance in case of connectivity issues.  Supplemental assignments will be handed out in class.  Students will record all work/answers for HW in their composition HW book.

  7. Opportunities to Improve Grade  Award quality HW completion. (10% of grade)  1/3 points back from test corrections.  Feedback is provided through returned quizzes and through test corrections. Quizzes returned to students. • Tests remain in classroom, but students will view them and • make corrections. Students will have a “cross - walk” to bring home to enable parents and tutors to help them review specific topics as needed.

  8. Web Page Communication Access Electronic Communication allows  busy people to reach each other when schedules do not mesh. Please ensure that the front office has  an up-to-date email address as well as a working phone number.  Remember to sign Methods Include:  up for each Infinite Campus • teachers School- Grades • Wires e-alerts. School-Wires Site • Daily Blog/Links •  Remember to Email • unsubscribe from Phone.. irreplacable when • conversation may be last year’s misunderstood. teacher’s e -alerts.

  9. Questions or Concerns?  Encourage your child/student to take advantage of tutoring options.  Contact the teacher.  Understand that the teacher will employ Socratic questioning frequently and not simply “give answers” to the students. Sometimes students see this as a refusal to help if they  have not been exposed to this style of teaching and tutoring. However, the teacher will make sure the students  have the required knowledge to complete assigned tasks.

  10. General Supplies For Use in All Classes:  3 ring binder (shared with other subjects)  Dividers for geometry (4) Notes, Warm-Ups, Quizzes, Glossary &Theorems  Pencils, erasers  Red Pen, Highlighters (2+ colors)  Colored Pencils  College Ruled Paper & Graph Paper  Notecards For Geometry Only:  2 -3 Graph Composition Books  Roll of clear tape For Taping Papers in Composition Book

  11. Geometry Tools  Protractor Smaller size is actually better  Ruler Metric and Standard Units  Compass  AVOID flat stamped out compasses  If possible, get a compass that can be tightened as needed.
