5 things you might not know about Pulp Fiction
WARNING The rest of this presentation does contain serious spoilers for the movie Pulp Fiction.
1. Made up Bible verse Did you know, the Bible verse that Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) recites at the beginning of the movie is almost entirely made up?
Jules Winnfield quote The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you. Actual Bible quote I will carry out great vengeance on them and punish them in my wrath. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I take vengeance on them.
2. Vincent Vega’s Bad-luck Bathroom breaks Did you know, every time the character Vincent Vega (John Travolta) goes to the bathroom in the movie, something bad happens?
1st bathroom break: Vincent Vega goes to the bathroom after a night out with Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman), while in the bathroom Mia finds heroin that was in Vincent’s jacket pocket, assumes it to be cocaine and snorts it putting her into a drug induced coma.
2nd bathroom break: After breaking into the home apartment of boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) to wait for and kill Butch for not throwing a boxing match Vincent gets the urge to go to the bathroom leaving his gun on the counter in the kitchen, meanwhile Butch comes into his home, sees the gun on the counter, picks it up and when Vincent comes out he subsequently shoots Vincent and kills him with his own gun.
3rd bathroom break: While Jules and Vincent are in a diner eating after a fiasco to do with some brains and the back of their car, Vincent once again decides to go to the bathroom and while he is there the diner the two are eating in is robbed by a man and a woman.
3. The frighteningly free usage of the F-word Did you know, the F-word is said throughout the film a total of 265 times? Do they kiss their mothers with that mouth?
4. What’s in the briefcase? Throughout the movie a mysterious briefcase shows up many times that Jules and Vincent are supposed to be retrieving and returning to their boss, Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). The audience is never shown or told what is truly in the briefcase, now while in the context of the fictional movie universe we still don’t know as the director/writer Quentin Tarantino has said that the contents of the case are whatever the viewer imagines them to be, however, the actual physical real world contents of the briefcase have been revealed to us to be… Just two batteries and a lightbulb inside a suitcase.
5. Divine intervention and set inattention Did you know, at the beginning of the movie when Jules and Vincent are shot at by a wannabe thug (Alexis Arquette) that ends up missing every shot, all the bullet holes in the wall behind them are there before he even starts shooting?
