Over the summer, we made significant progress on the new George Mason ES, the new Greene ES, and the new middle school on Hull Street. All three remain on schedule for a Fall 2020 opening! Over the summer, we made significant progress on our solar panel work. Installation is now complete at Broad Rock, Holton, Huguenot, Miles Jones, MLK, and Oak Grove-Bellemeade; and in progress at Blackwell, Brown, Fisher and Reed. Once fully in operation, this partnership will save RPS approximately $2 million in energy costs over the next 20 years. 12 Richmond Public Schools | September 3, 2019

  13. 2019 2019-20 20 Sc Scho hool Openi ening ng: Update e for the he Richm hmond nd City Sc Scho hool Board Technology: Thousands of New Computers for Our Students! • Pending Board approval this evening, we will be purchasing 4,200 Chromebooks for our classrooms, which will bring us close to a 2:1 student-to-computer ratio. Moving to Chromebooks will enable us to reduce costs, implement a regular device refresh schedule, and provide better and more cost effective support. • In addition, for the first time, we are participating in VDOE’s e-learning backpack program to procure additional Chromebooks for the following eligible schools: Amelia Street, Armstrong, Franklin Military, George Wythe, Huguenot, John Marshall, Richmond Alternative, and Thomas Jefferson. • In addition, we are partnering with T-Mobile to provide all 6th grade students with a Chromebook and a personal hotspot device that they will keep for all of middle school! 13 Richmond Public Schools | September 3, 2019
