Current situation • Piracy of Horn of Africa significantly decreased due to e.g. military presecence in Gulf of Aden, armed guards and use of BMP on ships in high-risk areas Source: IMO* contains fended off as well as successful attacks • Root causes for piracy still present in Somalia - pirate kingpins still have capacity to commit piracy. • Piracy and armed robbery in Gulf of Guinea increasing Danish concern – for shipping industry and for seafareres.
