  9. Our Story The Do Book Company is a new independent publishing house based in Shoreditch, London. Our branded series of pocket guides are written by speakers from the Do Lectures and will be available in print and digital formats from May 2013. The Do Lectures is an annual event held in West Wales and California that has been described as 'TED meets Burning Man and Where the Wild Things Are '. Over four days, 80 attendees sit under canvas and listen to 30 speakers share their stories, passions and ideas. Previous speakers have included Tim Berners Lee and Kickstarter CEO, Perry Chen. 'The idea is a simple one: that people who Do things can inspire the rest of us to go and Do things too.' - David Hieatt, founder Talks are filmed and watched online for free. Over 1 million people did this last year, and 15,000 people follow on Twitter. The book company began when former Random House editorial director, Miranda West realised that the Do speakers were the kind of people who should be publishing books. They are the game changers. Together with founders David and Clare Hieatt, they thought about whether they could recreate that same positive change in book form: a simple mind shift, the mastery of a new skill or craft, a shot of inspiration. So they set out to build a book company. In May 2013, the company will launch with its first five books. Each will be fairly short, about 100 pages, because Do books focus on the doing -- not the theory behind it. Concise practical guides about how to do stuff. Super useful.
