ACADEMY PROGRAMS • Academies are extra – curricula activities that are run out of school hours • Teachers volunteer their time to run Academies • Some Academies request a small fee to attend • They vary each term 12
DIFFERENCES TO EXPECT IN HIGH SCHOOL • Communication is more complex • Enquires need to be directed according to type (classroom? Pastoral care?) • Students will be increasingly more independent • Students will carry their belongings with them (lockers for PE class) • Students change for sport classes and there is a specific sport uniform • Lots of opportunities for extension or extra assistance, extra curricula involvement or interests to develop Policies (Attendance, Assessment, Dress Code) • 13

ACADEMIC ELITE PROGRAM • Exclusive program for students in the Aveley SC local intake area • Intellectually stimulating program (extension and/or acceleration) • Flexible program that is available in years 7-9 and operated in two streams • Science and mathematics • English and Humanities & Social Sciences • Entry is through testing developed by ACER - AGAT & Ewrite test
BENEFITS OF THE AEP AND AVELEY SC High quality teachers (every teacher has been merit selected) Progressive curriculum (acceleration or enrichment) Future focused Students will have the opportunity to engage in camps, excursions and incursions specific for the AEP program. This may include university tours or links, competitions, festivals, and/or camps
THE SPORTS ELITE PROGRAM PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH: Athelete development program Access to high quality coaches and facilities Additional camps, incursion and excursion opportunities Initially before school sessions and then integrated into students timetables
SELECTION PROCESS 1. Submission of the application form by Friday 18 th September . For SEP, including section about the students sporting achievements and aspirations. 2. Information about AEP testing details and invitations to second round selection for SEP occur the following week 3. Testing date - Monday 12 th October . 9am for AEP, 3.30pm for SEP physical testing based on a variety of key fitness components 4. First round offers sent out early term 4

WHAT CAN PARENTS DO TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION • Ensure your child attends school. Students should aim for 94% plus attendance rate. Attendance and academic performance correlation is well documented • If students are absent or late – always provide explanation (Aveley.SC.Absence@education.w.edu.au) or by text on 0447171468 • Support the College’s Dress Code and ensure your child’s compliance • Communicate with your child’s teachers Role model appropriate social media use • • Make sure they are arriving prepared for school • If you aren’t sure, or have a question or concern – raise this with us directly 22
UNIFORM SHOP 2020/2021 • Uniform Shop is currently located in the school administration block but will move to the new Stage 2 facilities in Dec 2020. • The Shop is managed by Nell Gray and is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8am to 10.30am. • Purchases can be made directly or ordered online and collected at the Uniform Shop. • Additional opening days for new enrolments - bookings only. CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES • Contribution $235 per year (<$6.00 per week) • Charges may apply for excursions, academies and yr. 9/10 elective subjects and vary according to actual cost and student participation. • Charges are kept to a minimum and cover costs only. Statements are sent to families term 4 with booklists. • • Reminders for unpaid items are sent home each term.
