  10.  Meet with individuals or groups of students in a confidential environment about personal, academic, or career related concerns.  Make presentations to help students understand how to navigate high school (graduation requirements, post-secondary planning, etc.)  Assist students with college and career preparation.  Develop strategies with students, teachers, and parents to help students be successful in school.

(3) Give the slip back to Mrs. Evans Then… (4) Your counselor will send for you by having an appointment slip delivered to your class; check the time your counselor wrote and come at that time. (You will receive a signed pass back to class when you are finished.)

  17. What do I have to do to graduate with my class in June 2020?

  18.  English I, II, III, & IV  All English classes are offered at the standard and honors level. English I is also offered as Paideia.  English III & IV are also offered at the AP (or Advanced Placement) Level.

  19.  Math I (or Foundations of Math 1and 1B), Math II, Math III, and…  4 th Math Course will be aligned with the student's post high school plans, generally Advanced Functions & Modeling (called AFM), Pre-Calculus Honors, or AP Statistics  In the case where a student is unable to complete the math requirements, he/she may be eligible for Math Substitution.

  20.  Earth Science or AP Environmental Science  Biology  Physical Science, Chemistry, or Physics

  21.  World History  American History I & II OR AP US History plus an additional SS elective.  Civics & Economics

  22.  Healthful Living I  Or, for students participating in the JROTC program, JROTC I and II

  24.  A world language is not required for graduation, but it is one of the requirements in meeting UNC system minimum admissions requirements.  Your choices at SHS are French, Spanish, German, and Latin.

  29.  All of the courses you take in 9 th -12 th grades and the final grade you earned for each class which will be listed as a numerical final average (for example, final grade of 84)  High school classes (Math, Foreign Language) taken in middle school (these grades are not factored into your high school GPA)  Your weighted and unweighted GPA and your class rank What goes into a final grade? A final grade represents your work in a course over a semester: 1 st Q grade + 2 nd Q grade + Final Exam grade, OR, 3 rd Q grade + 4 th Q grade + Final Exam grade Final Exams are worth: 20% of your final grade if you are in an EOC course 20% of your final grade if you are in a non-EOC course

  31.  Stays on your transcript forever, even if you repeat the class and earn a passing grade the next time you take it.  Will be seen by any college/university admissions rep, scholarship committee member, employer, military recruiter, or college coach you send it to.  Is calculated into your GPA as a 0 and significantly hurts your cumulative GPA. Take a look:  Student A- has all A’s except for one class. He earns 7 final grades of A and 1 final grade of F. His 9 th grade GPA will be 3.5 instead of a 4.0.  Student B- earns 4 B’s, 3 C’s and 1 F. Her 9 th grade GPA will be 2.25 out of a 4.0.  Student C- has 2 B’s and 3 C’s and fails the other 3 classes. His 9 th grade GPA will be 1.5 out of a 4.0.

  33. For PUBLIC universities in N.C. (there are 17), there are MINIMUM ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS: ***Minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average In addition to graduation requirements, students must have: ***Higher level math beyond Math III (like, AFM or Pre-Calculus) ***Two levels of the same foreign language ***880 on the S.A.T. (Critical Reading + Math), OR, OR, 17 on the ACT For Private/Independent Colleges/Universities (there are over 30 in N.C.): Requirements will vary since these schools can set their own standards For Community/Technical Colleges or Trade Schools: No minimum requirements except for certain programs (i.e, Nursing)
