Mi’kmaq Renewable Energy Strategy • Designed to undertake an analysis in three primary areas. Potential projects (COMFIT), Mi’kmaq Energy Usage and Policy • Stantec Consulting engaged in Aug 2010. • Project Delivered in April 2011. Assembly approves final draft in July 2011. • MRES reviewed wind and grid resources for all 13 communities and satellite communities. • Reviewed potential for large and small wind, Biomass, tidal and run of river Slide 3 6/26
MRES continued • Captured and Analyzed (for the first time) actual Mi’kmaq usage data from NS power. • MRES revealed that the Mi’kmaq (on average) use close to 2 times the power that average Nova Scotian’s use on an annual basis. • Became the driver for Mi’kmaq Energy Efficiency Project • Delivered to all 13 Mi’kmaq communities from May – December 2013 • Total installs of energy efficient products equals 1640 Mi’kmaq homes. • Over 2.0 million kwhs per year saved or $ 280,000.00 in annual savings (at current rates) Slide 4 7/26
