Widow/Widowers • An individual 60> receiving early widow’s or widower’s insurance benefits or receiving other benefits under section 202 of the Social Security Act, but is eligible to receive widow/widowers benefits Would be eligible for SSI payments if s/he were not receiving such benefits Not entitled to Medicare Part A benefits 40 Widow/Widowers 1 st Disregard • Will remain eligible for Medicaid as long as the following criteria are met 60 years of age or older Applies for and is receiving an early widow(er )s’ insurance benefit, or other benefits under section 202 of the Social Security Act, but is eligible to a receive widow(er)s benefit Becomes ineligible for SSI as a result of receiving such benefit Would be eligible for SSI payments if s/he were not receiving such benefits Not entitled to Medicare Part A benefits • 87 ADM - 27 41
Widow/Widowers, cont’d. • Certified disabled widow/widower who lost SSI and MA benefits due to an actuarial adjustment in 1983 Have been receiving widow/widower’s benefits since Jan 1984 and also received an SSI benefit in the month of January 1984, but since lost SSI benefit due to the increase in widow/widower’s benefits • 87 ADM - 27 42 Widow/Widowers 2 nd Disregard • Eligible for Medicaid providing they meet the following criteria Certified disabled widow(er) who was entitled to a widow(er )s benefit and SSI benefit in January ‘84 Lost SSI and MA benefits due to an actuarial adjustment and increase in the widow(er )s benefit in ‘83 Became eligible for a widow(er )’s benefit prior to age 60 and have continued to receive their widow(er )’s benefits since January 1984 Would continue to be eligible for SSI if the amounts of the 1/84 adjustment and any COLAs were disregarded • 87 ADM-27 43
