  2. High School Requirements • English 4 credits • Mathematics 3 credits* (required to take four years) • Social Studies 3 credits • Science 3 credits • Practical Art 1 credits • Fine Arts 1 credit • Personal Finance ½ credit • PE 1 ½ credits • Health ½ credit • Electives 7 ½ credits

  3. • Each student must be enrolled in 7 classes • A quality-point grading system is used for class ranking and GPA. A ½ credit class receives ½ quality-point and a full credit class receives a 1 quality-point. No more than five quality points may be used in the class rank. • Pay attention to the prerequisites: A course that must be taken before you enroll in another related course.

  4. • A student’s schedule will be changed for the following reasons only: • Computer Error • Prerequisite course not met • Duplicate credit • Teacher Recommendation that the student is misplaced • Missing a class or “holes” in schedule

  5. • Requests for class changes will not be considered for the following reasons: • Change of student interest • A negative effect of course grade on GPA • Not needing the course to graduate • You MUST choose your courses WISELY and CAREFULLY!!!

  6. • Academic Eligibility: • Students participating in extra-curricular activities, interscholastic sports and all activities sponsored by the MSHSSA must pass all courses attempted in the previous semester. • Summer school credit may not be used to meet this eligibility. • Students will not be eligible if they have a failing grade for the semester. • All students must currently be enrolled in 3.0 units of credit (6 credit bearing classes our school offers in a semester) to be eligible to participate in extra-curricular athletics and/or activities.

  7. LANGUAGE ARTS COURSES (4 credits required for graduation) • 10 TH GRADE: • Language Arts 10 or • Pre AP Language Arts 10

  8. MATH (3 credits, students are expected to take four years of Math) • 10 TH GRADE: • Algebra I • Algebra 1.5 • Algebra II • Pre AP Algebra II (A in both Algebra I and Teacher Recommendation) • Geometry

  9. SOCIAL STUDIES (3 credits required for graduation) • 10 TH GRADE: • American History (required) • AP United States History

  10. SCIENCE COURSES (3 credits required for graduation) • Grade 10: • Biology • Pre AP Biology • Forensics (Biology, recommendation of Chemistry) • Chemistry I (Algebra I) • Chemistry I Accelerated (Algebra II and Biology) • Chemistry of Materials (Biology) • Ecology • AP Environmental Science

FINE ART (1 credit required for graduation ) • ART Exploring Art, then Ceramics, Drawing & Painting, or Design • MUSIC Music Appreciation or Basic Guitar then Advanced Guitar • BAND Marching Band (Fall) & Concert Band (Spring) • CHOIR Men’s and Women’s Choir or Audition for others • THEATRE Theatre 1, Theatre 2 (Acting) Theatre 3 (Design & Tech.), Theatre 4 (Ensemble Acting & Production)

  12. PE & HEALTH (1½ PE credits & ½ Health credit) You must start with PHYSICAL DIMENSTIONS ( ½ ½ credit ) THEN YOU CAN TAKE . . . Stretch & Stress Lifetime Sports Walking to Fitness Management Fitness & Advanced Fitness & Running & Conditioning Conditioning Conditioning YOU MUST TAKE HEALTH! (Health is it’s own credit and is required for graduation for all students)

  13. JROTC (.5 PE credit) • 10 th Grade: • Cadets receive a .05 credit for PE (Physical Education) upon successful completion of the LET-2 year and the approval of the instructor.

  14. PRACTICAL ARTS (1 credit is required for graduation) • Driver’s Education • Pre-AP Computer Science • AP Computer Science (Algebra II) • Project Lead the Way – Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) • Project Lead the Way – Principles of Engineering (POE) • Housing and Home Management • Family Living and Parenthood • Nutrition & Wellness I & II Practical Art classes are any Business, Computer, 2-hour or 3- hour block class at WCC. PAWS DAY • PURPOSE: • To work with students in class to review graduation requirements and the course offerings for the next academic school year. • Teachers will share input regarding course offerings within their department and sign off on classes that require a teacher recommendation. • Students are encouraged to talk with their teachers, counselors, and parents about the courses that are best suited to meet their needs.

PAWS DAY • Students will register for classes in eSchool on February 2 nd . • Counselors will review student selections and discuss concerns with students as necessary. • Once registration is complete, if a student would like to make a change to his or her course requests, they must see his or her counselor. • Course registration is not the final schedule for a student. • Registration allows administrators to determine the demand for courses in order to plan for the upcoming school year. • You MUST choose your courses WISELY and CAREFULLY!!!

Once students receive their schedules, changes may be made by teacher request or by principal approval. 3. School board policy requires students to be enrolled in 4 years of math. Many colleges also require 4 years of math to meet admission requirements. 4. Many colleges require 2 years of the same foreign language to meet admission requirements. 5. PAWS DAY INSTRUCTIONS • Bring this ”PAWS DAY” Student Request Form to each of their classes. • Each of your teachers will talk about the course offerings within their department. • Select core classes as well as electives and list them below as you progress throughout the day. Please use pencil if possible. Teachers will sign off on the classes if necessary. • Go to the computer lab and enter requests into the computer. • Students will turn in their “PAWS DAY” Student Request Form to their Tiger Time Teacher.

  21. PAWS DAY INFORMATION • 2 nd Semester schedule may be different hours, same teachers • Teacher recommendations will be entered into eSchool prior to students entering their requests. You may notice the teacher recommendation on your screen when you enter your requests into eSchool. • Students will NOT be able to make changes to their course requests in eSchool. Students will need to see their counselor to update requests.
