Which beach? Here are a few of our favourite beaches in Cornwall! Perranporth is a popular seaside town with a huge sandy beach which stretches 2 miles to the north. There are also extensive sand dunes and all the expected facilities. Dogs are allowed on Perranporth all year round, however they are to be kept on a lead during July and August. Watergate Bay is an excellent mile long beach with good surfing and also plenty of sand for families. Access is via a sloping path to Watergate Bay beach. Dogs allowed all year at Watergate Bay. Bedruthan Steps is a large sandy beach dwarfed by spectacular rock outcrops. Note that swimming at Bedruthan Steps is dangerous and access to the beach is unsuitable for wheel chairs and push chairs. The beach at Bedruthan Steps is closed in winter, opening again on March 1 st . Not suitable for swimming at Bedruthan Steps due to strong currents. The steps down to the beach are very steep and not suitable for wheel chairs or push chairs. Note that the steps down are closed in winter opening again on 1st March. There is a risk of becoming stranded at high tide. Dogs allowed all year at Bedruthan Steps.
Chapel Porth is a small sandy cove, near to St Agnes, which extends to a wide beach at low tide. There is a short walk over rocks to get to the sand. The sand is covered at high tide. The coast path can be walked to St Agnes Head for spectacular views. The Wheal Coates mine can also be visited. One small National Trust car park by Chapel Porth beach. In summer, sometimes fields are opened for parking. Dogs are banned on the Chapel Porth beach from Easter Day to October. Crackington Haven this is a popular sand and pebble beach with plenty of sand at low tide. There also rock pools at low tide. Facilities are close to the Crackington Haven beach and there is a slipway to the beach. There are excellent views from the 400 foot cliffs. Crackington Haven is approx 21 miles from Wadebridge. Dogs are banned on the beach from Easter Day to October 1 st . Crantock Beach is a pleasant sandy beach with a huge expanse of sand at low tide. There are also extensive dunes. Crantock village is approximately 4 miles from Newquay. To the north of Crantock village there are 2 car parks which are a short distance from Crantock Beach. There are also 2 car parks at West Pentire and you can walk from West Pentire to Crantock Beach via the coast path. Swimming can be dangerous beside the river Gannel and the river mouth. There is quick sand in the Gannel estuary. Dogs allowed all year at Crantock Beach.
Daymer Bay is a pleasant sandy bay with rock pools to the north of the bay. There is a small flight of steps to Daymer Bay beach. There are also other access points from the coast path. At low tide the sand stretches from Daymer Bay south to Rock to form a large expanse of sand. Daymer Bay is approximately 7 miles from Wadebridge and 14 miles from Bodmin. Dogs allowed all year at Daymer Bay. Fistral Beach is a huge sandy beach on the western edge of Newquay and is one of the best surfing beaches in the UK. Access is via short slopes from the beach car park or the coast path. At the southern end there are steps to the beach. 1 small car park close by Fistral Beach. There are also a number of car parks within walking distance of Fistral beach and there is road parking to the south of the beach. Dogs allowed all year at Fistral Beach. Harlyn Bay - One of the best family beaches in Cornwall, Harlyn Bay is a wide and spacious beach popular with families and surfers. There are several access points to Harlyn Bay beach. The coast path can be walked from Harlyn Bay to Mother Iveys Bay and Trevose Head. Note that part of the coast path is on Harlyn Bay beach, so this route may be impassable at high tide. Harlyn Bay is approximately 10 miles from Wadebridge. Dogs allowed all year at Harlyn Bay.
Mawgan Porth - this is a wide sandy beach with sand even at high tide. There is level access to the beach and toilets and parking are close to the beach. Mawgan Porth is 7 miles from Newquay. Dogs allowed all year at Mawgan Porth. Newquay has a world wide reputation for surfing and comprises four beaches - Towan Beach, Great Western Beach, Tolcarne Beach and Lusty Glaze. Together they form a huge expanse of sand at low tide. The beaches are ideal for families and surfers and there are excellent facilities, though Newquay does get very busy. There are roads down to Towan, Great Western & Tolcarne, but steep steps down to Lusty Glaze. To the west of the town there is also Fistral Beach. Dogs allowed all year in the harbour, Towan and Great Western beaches. Dogs banned Easter Day to October 1 on Tolcarne. Dogs banned 8am to 7pm Whitsun to 1 st September on Lusty Glaze. Polzeath is a super family beach with a large expanse of sand and excellent surfing. There is also a small cove at the north of Polzeath beach called Pentireglaze Haven. At Polzeath there is level access to the beach by the beach car park. At New Polzeath there are steps down to the beach. Dogs are banned on Polzeath beach from Easter Day to October 1.
Godrevy is a sandy beach stretching from Gwithian Towans along the Godrevy coastline up to Godrevy Point. On Godrevy beach there are many rocky sections but also many good sandy patches. The coastline here is run by the National Trust. Access to the beach is via sloping paths. There are excellent views to Godrevy Island and across St Ives Bay on a clear day. There is also good walking around Godrevy Point. National Trust signs warn of strong currents and the risk of being cut off by the tide. Dogs are banned on Godrevy beach from 1st May to September 30th (8am to 7pm) Gwithian Towans beach is effectively the middle part of Hayle Sands, a huge sandy beach which stretches from the Hayle Estuary to Gwithian Towans and Godrevy Point. Gwithian Towans beach is popular with surfers and for families there is plenty of sand. There are extensive sand dunes above the beach but the dunes end abruptly at 30 foot cliffs which are crumbly. Dogs are banned at Gwithian Towans beach from 1st May to September 30th (8am to 7pm) Hayle beach is an excellent 3 mile sandy beach that stretches from the Hayle Estuary to Gwithian Towans and Godrevy Point. The lower half is close to the town of Hayle and comprises different sections of beach known as Hayle Towans, Black Cliff and Mexico Towans. Access to the beach is via steps and sloping paths. There are different rules for the different beaches regarding dogs. Dogs are banned on the beach from Hayle Towans to Black Cliff from 1 st May to September 30 th (8am to 7pm). Dogs are allowed at Mexico Towans all year along the beach up to Gwithian Towans, where dogs are banned 1 st May to September 30 th (8am to 7pm)
St Ives is a popular and picturesque seaside town, with two super beaches Porthminster and Porthmeor. There are also three smaller beaches Porthgwidden, Bamaluz and Lambeth Walk and there is also plenty of sand in St Ives harbour. Dogs are banned on Porthminster, Porthmeor and Porthgwidden beaches and St Ives harbour from 1 st May to 30 th September (8am to 7pm). Dogs allowed all year at Bamaluz and Lambeth Walk. Porthcurno beach is a perfect sandy beach with superb coastal scenery. Access is via a small flight of steps to the beach. The nearby Minack Theatre can be visited during the day. Pedn Vounder beach can also be reached via the coast path, but note that there is a difficult climb to the beach. Dogs are banned on Porthcurno beach from 1st May to 30th September (8am to 7pm)
