What is it: Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug/alcohol use and accompanying behaviors. Harm reduction embodies the core value that human beings should not be denied the rights and privileges that other’s enjoy solely because of their active drug use.
An ABSOLUTE non-judgmental interaction Sobriety is NOT a requirement Preventative measures are put in place to aid in safety and responsible drug use Sharps containers Needle exchange information and sites
Clientele are NOT required to participate in case management in order to maintain housing Many have case managers from other programs in the area and services are coordinated through that entity Case management is offered in the form of creating a housing plan and service coordination IF the tenant so chooses
Clientele will be served based on their expressed needs Food assistance Transportation assistance Applying for benefits (DSHS, Social Security, etc) Advocacy Referral services These services are coordinated with other case managers and/or service providers in the community
Any interaction with our clientele is documented via case notes and kept in a hard copy file Are denoted via the D.I.P model (Description, Impression, Plan) Release of information is completed before sharing any of the client’s information with another agency
Enforcing building rules is a challenge because: Many of our tenants have been homeless for long periods of time and are resistant to conforming to rules Loyalty to family, friends, and associates may allow tenants to allow behavior that violates their landlord tenant agreement Ex. Guests after visiting hours are over Allow guests to smoke in the building
