  1.  What is it:  Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug/alcohol use and accompanying behaviors.  Harm reduction embodies the core value that human beings should not be denied the rights and privileges that other’s enjoy solely because of their active drug use.

  2.  An ABSOLUTE non-judgmental interaction  Sobriety is NOT a requirement  Preventative measures are put in place to aid in safety and responsible drug use  Sharps containers  Needle exchange information and sites

  3.  Clientele are NOT required to participate in case management in order to maintain housing  Many have case managers from other programs in the area and services are coordinated through that entity  Case management is offered in the form of creating a housing plan and service coordination IF the tenant so chooses

  4.  Clientele will be served based on their expressed needs  Food assistance  Transportation assistance  Applying for benefits (DSHS, Social Security, etc)  Advocacy  Referral services  These services are coordinated with other case managers and/or service providers in the community

  5.  Any interaction with our clientele is documented via case notes and kept in a hard copy file  Are denoted via the D.I.P model (Description, Impression, Plan)  Release of information is completed before sharing any of the client’s information with another agency

  6.  Enforcing building rules is a challenge because:  Many of our tenants have been homeless for long periods of time and are resistant to conforming to rules  Loyalty to family, friends, and associates may allow tenants to allow behavior that violates their landlord tenant agreement  Ex. Guests after visiting hours are over  Allow guests to smoke in the building
