What is Action Learning? • Learning by doing • Process for bringing together a group of people with varied levels of skills and experience (but with influence, passion, etc. to impact an issue) to analyze a problem and develop an action plan • Designed to generate action and learning from implementing ideas (and making modifications to your ideas - as necessary) 2
Action Learning Collaboratives • Decide on the MCH issue or challenge • Form a team to tackle the issue • Reframe the issue and/or the approach • Determine goals • Develop action strategies • Take action • Process and revise strategies – take action again! • Capture and share learning 3
Benefits of Using Action Learning • Strategies are designed to suit the team’s needs (and abilities to implement) • Development is rapid • Emphasizes getting things done • Teams are challenged (and supported) to solve critical problems • Contributions are visible, practical, and active • Network of current and future leaders is matured • New ideas and ways of doing things disseminated into the broader field of knowledge 4
