  2. Biographies A biography gives facts about a person’s life. It is not written by the subject of the book but by an author who has done their research and knows a great deal about that person. Biographies are written in the third person and can be written about someone who is no longer alive.

  3. Other Important Features of a Biography A biography is a life story written in chronological order (in time order). It can include information about when and where the subject was born, their childhood, important events in their lives including information about what they did or achieved.

  4. Other Important Features of a Biography If the person is no longer alive, it may include information about when and how they died. The biography may also include direct quotes from the subject or quotes from others about the subject.

  5. Text Type Features Features – Biography Contains an introduction which tells you who the person is Subheadings used to organise paragraphs Events are chronological (time order) Written in the past tense Written in third person (he, she, they) Refers to named individuals Contains dates linked to specific events Includes time conjunctions (adverbs of time) to link ideas Events are written as a story and not just a list of facts to engage the reader Closing statement says how person will be remembered

  9. Your Task On the printed worksheets ‘ wc 8 th June Biography Features’, read through one of the biographies and identify the features by underlining them or circling them. If you have colouring pencils or felt tips you can use them to create a key and give each feature a different colour.
