Phyllis Gretzky Memorial Award for Female Youth Leadership Phyllis is likely the least famous member of Canada’s first family of hockey, but many will tell you that she was the most important one. It was her dedication to her family that allowed Wayne to have the kind of success that he did. She was the family stalwart who kept everything cool and collected throughout Wayne’s rise to stardom, doing whatever was necessary behind the scenes to make sure that everything was as normal as it could have been. Her quiet leadership was the glue that kept the foundation together.

  6. Mad adison M Mac acBride • Key player for volleyball at BCI where she also plays basketball and rugby • A positive, encouraging and reliable coach for the Brant Youth Volleyball Club • As an honour student, she also is on the Students’ Council and Activism Club

Kendra V a Van an Leeu euwen • Attends SJC where she is the Captain of the Senior Girls’ Basketball team has won 2 Silver OFSAA Medals • 3 Gold CWOSSA Medals while also playing tennis, baseball, badminton and volleyball • An honor roll student who volunteers in many activities, Student Council, Campus Ministry, Grade 9 Student Mentor • An exceptional lady who works diligently and is the ultimate enthusiastic, skilled and humble teammate and competitor

The athlete must demonstrate sportsmanship, dedication and fair play. This special person makes a real difference on the team both on and off the playing field.

Sebas astian Pau aulins • As a member of the Brant Aquatic Club, he is a tremendous racer who has the ability and drive to push himself in training • Is a bright and articulate young man who will make a wonderful ambassador for Canadian swimming in the future – a shining example for aspiring swimmers • As a multiple gold medalist at the Eastern Canadian Open, his sights are set on the Canadian Olympic Trials

Daniel We Weagle • Possesses many outstanding sporting achievements but most special are the accolades expressed by his coaches in regards to his dedication, sportsmanship and fair play • Stand out athlete at SJC in volleyball, basketball and baseball his coach for the Ontario Nationals Baseball Club describes him as a • Valuable, coachable, hard working and respected team member on and off the field

Nigel W l Weir ir • a player, linesman and head official of the Brantford Youth Flag Football • a respectful stickler for the rules; he helps junior players and coaches learn and improve their skills while communicating consistently with coaches and parents • a true sportsman – he always thanks the officials after a game whether they won or not

  20. George Churchill Memorial Sports Volunteer of the Year Had the category existed during his day, George Churchill would have found himself nominated for this award for decades. His tireless work with the track and field program here in Brantford, both with the Brantford club and also with the schools, allowed Brantford to become a hub for some of the best competitions in the sport. He was the man behind the organization and execution of just about every meet during the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and even in to the 90’s. He was also the coach of Brantford’s first track and field to make the Olympic Games, with Debbie Miller in 1968.

Fran ank V Viei eira • Coach and board member of the Brantford Galaxy Youth Soccer Club since 2009 • His business talents when applied to fundraising and sponsorship resulted • In huge gains for the clubs 'core programs • He continues as a principle contributor to soccer success – running grass roots training and coordinating a growing house league

  23. Dana a Van anEver ery • A valued member of the board and a team manager for Brantford Bisons – Brantford District Football Club • Spends countless hours fundraising and organizing going over and above in her efforts • Does all that she can to improve the experience for the Bisons’ families

Jason on R Redwood ood • Member of the Brantford Youth Flag Football board for 5+ years his expertise with technology eg. website, emailing lists, twitter, online • Manking improved communication with the league membership his great help in improving the marketing for BYFF has benefited everyone involved

  27. John Macklin Memorial Award Macklin began coaching and officiating track and field in Branford in 1966, and continued through until 1994. During his time, he helped to coach many athletes from Brantford who would go on to national and international competition, including the likes of Liz Polyak, Kevin Sullivan and Rick Mannen. Along the way, he became a respected official on the international stage, officiating at almost every Canadian and international meet during the 1970’s and 1980’s. On top of coaching and officiating, he also was the organizer of the Brant County Track and Filed and Cross Country championships for many years, and was heavily involved with the organization of the CWOSSA and OFSAA championships in both of these sports as well.

Joe T Tic ice • Involved over the last 15 years in football, boys’ basketball, badminton, curling and track and field at PJC. • Volunteers coaching in the community specifically with Special Olympics in the area of swimming and track and field. • Makes every athlete feel valued, is exceptional in treating the individuality of all athletes and demonstrates his humbleness and selflessness throughout

Gr Grace W Wilso son • Has a love of sport, a passion for coaching and a long-standing commitment to Special Olympics as shown by her over 25 years • Initially a coach with swimming, this spread to other athletics • Including track and field, softball, basketball, 5-pin bowling and soccer • Over 20 years she has left an indelible mark on those she coached, enriching their lives and creating an inclusive atmosphere where athletes of all skill levels are celebrated

Sean D Dou oucette • Involved with BCI (football and track and field) and the Brantford Track and Field Club (throwers – javelin ,discus, shot put, hammer) • Successes this year include BCI Senior Football Team winning the Championship and BTFC ‘s Holly Taylor winning the National title for Shot Put • Is an extremely dedicated coach who willingly puts in the time and effort necessary along with a consistently positive attitude • To ensure his athletes reach their full potential

Tony Madia • Has been a Coach for the CYO basketball for many years and presently coaches the girls’ bantam CYO Falcons • Is fair, positive, funny and generous • Creates a positive team culture that is visible both on and off the court while demonstrating his knowledge and passion for basketball

The individual must volunteer in a role other than coach e.g. Training staff, board members, etc… This person must have been with the association/team for a minimum of 15 years, and their presence as a member of the organization has a positive impact on those with whom they interact in their role.
