Buildings and Grounds roles and responsibilities Buildings and Grounds primary role is to address maintenance related work requests submitted by school site staff, when existing building systems are in need of repairs. Buildings and Grounds has a responsibility to maintain existing building systems in compliance with all governing codes and regulations. These roles and responsibilities relate to over 150 district owned facilities
Buildings and Grounds: “The nuts and bolts” Buildings and Grounds is a Maintenance Department under the Facilities Division, consisting of the following trade workers, supervision and office staff: Electricians (8) Office support staff (5) Plumbers (5) Supervisors (8) HVAC engineers (Heating, Ventilation Air Managers (4) Conditioning) (13) Director (1) Glaziers (2) Carpenters (10) Roofers (2) Locksmiths (4) Sheet metal Workers (6) Iron Workers (2) Painters (5) Laborers (1) *** The numbers next to the trades represents current (3/14/19) count of staffed positions to respond to Auto mechanic (1) day-to-day SFUSD needs. *** Warehouse Workers (3)
Who can access and submit a work request? Principals, Assistant Principals, and select office staff designated by the site Principal, can submit work requests. Buildings and Grounds creates the accounts to access the work request system and sends an informational email to the requester when the account is ready for use. This process ensures quality information and control over the specific school location. Buildings and Grounds is notified for personnel changes or if additions are required. The work request system allows for a two way communication between the site requesters, and the various users at Buildings and Grounds to provide a higher level of customer satisfaction. The school site Principal will designate their site staff, and authorize Buildings and Grounds to create the needed user accounts up to the allowed number of users as follows: ● Elementary Schools: Principal, Assistant Principal and up to two (2) additional main office staff. ● Middle/High Schools: Principal, Assistant Principal and up to three (3) additional main office staff.
