  1. Welcome to Kingfishers!

  2. Mr Cole I have been a teacher for around 14 years. During that time I have worked in lots of different schools, teaching all Year groups. I have even worked helping other teachers and people who want to become teachers! I have been working at Savile Park School for Five Years now. In that time I have taught Year Five, Year Two and Year One.

  3. What to expect in Year 1 You are probably wondering what year 1 will be like next year. I am going to be honest and say we are not 100% sure ourselves. So I won’t make any promises that I can’t keep. However, I do promise that no matter what happens, you will learn lots of new things, you will become better in all subjects and that we will have fun whilst doing so. Our first few weeks together… Mrs Hartley (The other year 1 teacher) and I hope that we can help you settle into Year One as quickly as possible. We have got lots of interesting ideas for topics and will let you know more about these later.

  4. What will we learn in Year 1 Here are some of the things we will be learning throughout the year. English • Maths • Reading • Science • History • Geography • Music • PE • RE • Computing • We will also be doing lots of work on our phonics throughout the year. (I will give you some links to help you practise over the summer, on the last slide)

  5. What can you do to help get ready for Year 1? Here are some of the things you can do to help you feel more ready for year 1. Practise writing your first and last name. (We don’t want any work to go missing, because • it hasn’t got a name on it.) Keep reading or listening to stories all throughout summer. You may not realise it, but we • learn lots from stories. Practise counting forwards and backwards. How high can you count? • Keep practising your phonics sounds and blending. Also keep a look out for all of those • tricky words, tell your parents when you have found one. Perhaps you could go on a tricky word hunt and write down all the tricky words you find as you go. Most of all, have a fantastic summer. You deserve it! •

  6. I have attached a video to the next slide which will hopefully show you more!
