Reading Foundational Skills By the end of Kindergarten, students should be able to: ● Read high frequency words by sight (e.g. the, at, it, is, are) ● Identify the sounds of each letter in a word ● Distinguish between long vowel and short vowel sounds ● Know how the rearrangement of letters in a word changes the pronunciation
Reading Comprehension With support, students should be able to: ● Retell story events ● Compare and contrast the experiences of characters in a story ● Identify the main idea of a text
Writing Students should be able to use drawings, dictations, and writings to: ● Tell about the events in a story
Math Students should be able to: ● Count to 100 by ones and tens ● Write numbers from 0 to 20 ● Compare two numbers between 1 and 20 ● Make combinations of 10 ● Solve addition and subtraction word problems within 10 (5+3=? 5+?=8)
