Islands High School is a traditional high school with an attendance zone that includes Tybee, Whitemarsh, Talahi, Wilmington and Oatland Islands and a portion of east Savannah just off of President Street.
Islands High School is a also a Choice School with two different specialty programs that students can apply for: Scientific Research Veterinary Science
Scientific Research Program Our Program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to conduct research under the direction of a faculty mentor, leading to a scholarly thesis document with a public presentation of results.
Scientific Research Program 1 ) Scientific Research as a Process – from conceiving of and developing a research idea, to designing and conducting a study, to analyzing and reporting data. 2) Ethics – the importance of ethical conduct in the treatment of research subjects and in the reporting of research results. 3) Scientific Literature, Writing, and Presentation – finding, reading, and interpreting primary and secondary sources and incorporating them into a literature review, writing scientifically, and the importance of publication and dissemination of research results.

The Veterinary Science program includes coursework in Basic Agriculture, Small Animal Care and Vet Science. Students will learn the basics of agriculture science, animal care and about the many career opportunities available in this field. Students will be engaged in a variety of classroom and hands on experiences to include an internship during their senior year.

Course Sequence (pathway): Students in the Veterinary Science Program will go through four required class and have the option of taking one additional class (Plant Science) and/or an internship. Schedules, Classes and Bells Ringing, Oh My School hours are 7:30am until 2:30pm Mondays- “C” Days – students go to all 8 classes (35 mins) Tuesdays/Thursdays – “A” Days – students go to 4 classes (85 minute classes) Wednesdays/Fridays- “B” Days - student go to 4 classes (85 minute classes)
Schedules, Classes and Bells Ringing, Oh My Each student is assigned an advisor. The advisor is like a homeroom teacher and the student will have that same advisor throughout high school. Students will begin their school day in advisement from 7:30- 7:40am.
Schedules, Classes and Bells Ringing, Oh My Classes are scheduled based on course requirements and sequences and students may have to travel from one side of the building to the other and then to another part of the building for the rest of the day. Students have five minute between classes to go to the restroom and to go to their locker if needed. •
Islands High School has 3 different lunch periods depending on the location of the 3rd period class. Each lunch period is 30 minutes • Students may choose to eat in • cafeteria or cave.

Do teachers have individual websites? Yes, most teachers use a website or Stay online platform for posting Connected! assignments, information and for collecting work. Some of these include: Schoology and Google Classroom. Students will have their own log in for each. It is up to the student to share this information with their parents.
