Letters Of Recommendation • Required for some universities and scholarships • Follow the Process • Form available in Guidance (helpful to include activities resume) • Appointment with the counselor is recommended • Proactive (some programs require letters before fall break e.g. Common App, Quest Bridge, Flinn, Military Academy - Teacher input) • What makes you stand apart from others • Allow your recommender 2 weeks to complete the letter (Letters will not be written over breaks or holidays, and does not count as the two week notice.)

College Admissions (In-State) Admissions have opened for ASU, NAU and UA Automatic In-state University requirements: • Have a 3.0 un-weighted Core* GPA or better in the 16 core courses, and • No deficiencies in core courses (no “D”’s or “F”’s) There is a *Core GPA Calculator on the Guidance Department Website

In-State University Honors Program Most schools have higher admissions requirements: • ASU separate application priority (11/1) • NAU separate application priority (TBD) • UA separate application (12/1) With each application, be sure to include all additional items the school may need such as essays, letters of recommendation, activities resume, etc .

  16. College Admissions (Out-of-State) • Know when to apply • The internet is a wonderful thing! • Highly selective schools have earlier deadline (Early Action, Early Decision) • Please - HAVE AN IN-STATE BACKUP PLAN!!

  17. Private & Out of State Colleges WUE • WUE (pronounced “woo - wee”) is the Western Undergraduate Exchange, a program of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Through WUE, students in western states may enroll in more than 140 two-year and four-year college institutions at a reduced tuition level: 150 percent of the institution's regular resident tuition. • Several School in the following states participate: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

  18. Federal Financial Aid FASFA • Apply AFTER October 1 st senior year. Update annually • Parents Financial Aid Nights: October 2 at Mountain Pointe AND October 26 at Compadre • Get help completing the FAFSA on College Goal Sunday, typically the Saturday and Sunday following Super Bowl. Dates will be announced

  19. Scholarships • Corona del Sol Guidance website • Naviance • Separate application is not required for in-state merit scholarships • Remind – Text @tuhsdmoney to 81010 • Apply early and apply often!

  20. College Entrance Exams • Universities - SAT or ACT • Test scores may be sent to 4 colleges at no charge • Some Universities SAT Subject Tests • In-State Schools do not require them • Community College Placement Test • Asset or ACCUPLACER • Additional Math Placement Tests may be given by universities

  21. A Few Things to Remember • Do not PAY anyone to help you with scholarships, FAFSA or college applications • Transcripts ordered through Naviance • Decision Making is a Process not an Event • Visit colleges over fall break • Continue to apply for admission and scholarships!!!

  25. Setting up your Naviance account 1. Log in to your Corona del Sol student Gmail account 1. Go to gmail.com and enter email address S(Student ID)@stu.tempeunion.org 2. Your password is the same one used to log in to a school computer 2. Open the email from Family Connection Account Information/Naviance 1. Click on the link: http//connection.naviance.com/cdshs 2. Username is your school email address: S(Student ID)@stu.tempeunion.org, then use the temporary password provided in the email. 3. You must change the temporary password 1. Click on the tab ABOUT ME 2. Scroll down to the bottom and click on the link, ACCOUNT 3. Use the same password you use when logging in to a school computer
