  13. Helping your son/daughter to unlock their full potential

  14. Setting target grades we want our students to be aspirational we encourage and support them to strive to achieve the highest grades that they can

  15. • We set them individual targets • Minimum Target Grades (MTG) • Based upon their GCSE grades • Aspirational, challenging, but achievable!

  16. Calculating the GCSE Points on Entry Score Each GCSE is given a Add up the total score score … and divide by the number of GCSEs A* = 8 A = 7 This gives their GCSE B = 6 points score on entry… C = 5 D = 4 E = 3 F = 2 G = 1 U = 0

  17. Calculating MTGs We use ALPS (Advanced Level Performance Systems) to calculate MTGs

  18. Calculating MTGs • Take the GCSE points on entry score • Compare to the tens of thousands of students nationally with the same GCSE points score to see what grades they achieved. • Select the grades which would put them in the top 25% of those students. • Set this as the MTG.

  19. Recap • MTG = Minimum target grade • Aspirational, challenging targets to strive to achieve • not maximum target grade • not predicted grades

  20. How do students achieve their MTG or better? They attend all lessons - attendance • of 90% (or 10% absence) costs a grade They turn up on time, ready to work • with the right equipment They are well organised - they know • when to study, when to socialise and when they can do part-time work • They know their MTG and make sure all work and assignments are at least this standard

  21. How do students achieve their MTG or better? They ask for help when they need it • and don’t run away from their problems They know that what really matters • is hard work not being a genius • Their lecturers and personal tutors provide feedback that tell them how to improve and help them solve their problems
