Commonly known as mountain tea, it has been valued by many a generation in the past, as part of a daily ritual. It is our strong belief that the Mediterranean Basin and the Aegean Sea region, in particular, is home to many herbs that are among the most studied in the world. This is mainly due to how long history has been written here in this region, since antiquity. As such, it is an opportunity for us, if not a duty to reclaim these timeless herbs. The beneficial properties of mountain tea are such that no home or workplace should be left without. Sustainability and proper utilization of natural resources are values we are committed to, and it is our firm belief that the uncensored collection of these herbs in the mountains will soon destroy this wealth that has been passed down to us. Mountain Tea or sideritis Herbal Gold Sideritis scardica stem-flower-leaves Belongs to the genus sideritis and Lamiacae family. The name comes from the word iron because it had the ability to heal wounds from iron objects. The genus includes about 150 species distributed in the Mediterranean basin, of which 17 are native very fragrant and productively in Greece, and meets every geographic regions (another species in Crete, another at Peloponnese, another in Evia, another at Olympus, another in Pindos and Chalkidiki etc). The sideritis scardica tea is native of mountain Olympus area, is a perennial plant and its height reaches 15-50 cm. At the top of the woody stem are found the flowers, which during the ripening of the plant get a bright yellow color and usually bloom depending on the level of the sea, late June to early September. It has a characteristic sweet smell and beautiful appearance. It is used as herbal tea while international studies continually show efficacy in various diseases, alleviating the symptoms of colds and gastrointestinal disturbance.
