So, what happens at Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park?
Stage 1 – arrival of the waste What happens here? Every waste wagon is weighed • upon arrival It then goes to our tipping hall • where the waste is sorted by the operatives in loaders They are weighed again when • they leave so we can keep track of how much waste was brought in
Stage 2 – sorting the waste What happens here? The black bags are split open and • the contents are emptied Moving conveyors are used to • move the waste about Plastic and metals are removed for • recycling and put into big blocks These are then sold on to be made • into other things
Stage 3 – organic waste What happens here? Organic waste is removed and • turned into compost We can also gather energy from • the bugs that create gases, which are then used to drive the turbine
Stage 4 – creating energy What happens here? We send what is left along a • conveyor to a big pit A grabber moves it into a big oven • where it is baked The large ovens then bake the • waste and the energy is produced in the gas coming from the waste Enough energy is created to power • over 11,000 homes!
