The US 60 Project Team • KYTC District 9 • Stantec Consulting Services – Design Consultant
Project Information • From I-64 to KY 180 • Just over 3.8 miles in length • In Phase I / Preliminary Design phase • Will explore needed improvements to the KY 180 intersection
Project Purpose The purpose of the US 60 widening project is to relieve congestion, improve safety, and provide system connectivity for motorists accessing downtown Ashland from the I-64 corridor.
Traffic Forecasts • Existing (2011/2012) – 10,500 to 13,500 vehicles per day (VPD) • Design Year (2030) – 3 Lane: 14,400 to 15,600 VPD – 5 Lane: 17,400 to 18,800 VPD • The 5 Lane option diverts traffic from KY 180
Crash History ● 106 Crashes from 2009-2011 ● Rear end and angle crashes make up 50% of all collisions ● Below average crash rate overall
