  1. Updates on Grid Activities in the Philippines Peter Antonio Banzon ASTI DOST 9 March 2010 03/08/10 1

  2. About ASTI • ICT and microelectronics R&D agency under the Philippines' Department of Science and Technology • Manages and Operates PREGINET and PSCIGRID 03/08/10 2

  3. Philippine eScience Grid • Three year program fully funded by DOST – Establish a national grid infrastructure in the Philippines that will enable collaborative research among local educational and research institutes – Provide easy access to HPC resources and applications for Life and Physical sciences 03/08/10 3

  4. Why Physical Science? 03/08/10 4

  5. Why Life science? More than 7,100 islands fall within the borders of the Philippines hotspot, identified as one of the world’s biologically richest countries. The country is one of the few nations that is, in its entirety, both a hotspot and a megadiversity country, placing it among the top priority hotspots for global conservation. 03/08/10 5

  6. ASTI HPC Resources • Compute – 39 nodes, 312 cores, 2.5 TFLOPS (6 more nodes soon) – 8 FPGA accelerators • Storage – 14 TB 03/08/10 6

  7. Current Status • Current local partners – ADMU – UP CSRC – PAGASA 03/08/10 7

  8. Compute Clusters • Banyuhay – The Bioinformatics Cluster • Unos – The Meteorology Cluster • Dalubhasaan – The Cluster Sandbox • Buhawi – The General-Purpose Cluster (EGEE certified production cluster) • Liknayan – The EUAsiaGrid and EGEE Collaboration Cluster (EGEE certified production cluster) 03/08/10 8
