Anticipated Outcomes At This Point For Camp Fantastic Probable availability of all sleeping lodges* and the majority of programming facilities (this is the current challenge so can’t say with absolute certainty today) Critical life-safety issues will be addressed in time for CF but other projects for which there is current available resource will be delayed til fall/winter which may impact SL winter/spring programming If life-safety issues cannot be executed in time, that facility would not be used by any SL program until resolution achieved
Immediate Challenges and Next Steps Lack of project leadership at pre-award, possible post-award resources identified VA-Tech Department of Facilities oversight, permits, approvals, etc Bandwidth of available contractors Contractor bidding process and coordination Lack of engagement and investment by 4-H Board Significant investment of time on our part to achieve desired outcomes No plan yet for renewed board leadership No plan yet for developing ongoing facility investment resource base
Bottom Line All SL spring programming has been moved to other sites Optimistic but not 100% certain today about which facilities available to CF this August – still a work in progress (no reasonable site alternative available) Unknown impact on winter/spring 2020 programming at this point in time Questions?
Final Thoughts….. Future Special Love Leadership Considerations How did we allow ourselves to get into this situation? No clear path yet to ongoing vitality of NOVA 4-H Center Careful consideration of NOVA 4-H Center lack of leadership and resources on SL programming Lack of regional alternative facility options for CF Immediate need for development of mid-to-long range strategic plan for SL programming home
