  2. Potato Activity • Goal • To teach people how to eliminate stereotypes and recognize the uniqueness of each individual.

  3. My Friend – Mr. Potato • Examine your potatoes. • Get to know its bumps, scars, and defects and make friends with it for about one minute or so in silence. • Get to know your potato well enough to be able to introduce your ‘friend’ to the group.

  4. Activity • Introduction of your friend to the group. • “Would you agree with this statement: • “All potatoes are the same’? Why or why not?”

  5. Discussion • People who live in the trailer park. • Kids of a certain religion • Students in the gifted program. • Students in special education classes. • People from a certain racial or ethnic group. • People who live in rural settings. • People who live in the city.

  6. Questions • When we lump everyone from the same group together and assume they all have the same characteristics, what are we doing? What is this called? • Do you know a lot of people from the groups we tend to lump together? Do they all fit the stereotype? • Why are stereotypes dangerous?
