  2. Why are we receiving textbooks? While we acknowledge the importance of technology in education, there is ● also value in printed instructional resources. According to the Journal of Experimental Education (Volume 85, 2016), ○ when reading assignments demand more engagement or deeper comprehension, students may be better off reading from a printed resource rather than a digital resource. Sometimes it’s good to have OPTIONS, for different types of learners. ○ Textbooks can be useful when parents are trying to help students with ○ homework. Textbooks often provide valuable practice problems and examples. ○

  3. Taking care of your textbooks These textbooks are ISSUED to you, but you don’t own them. They will be ● collected at the end of the school year. It’s very important that you take care of them, so that you don’t incur any charges $$$ It’s also important that you do not lose your textbooks. ● Always handle/grab your textbook using the middle of ● the book’s “spine.”

  4. Taking care of your textbooks Lockers - When storing textbooks in your locker, be careful to not bend the covers. Backpacks - There may be times when you need to take your textbook(s) home. We loading your backpack, be careful not to smash or bend the pages or covers. Markings - Please do not mark on or inside the textbooks. This will cause you to be charged for damages. Loaning- All students are being issued textbooks. There is no need to loan or borrow a textbook with another student. When using- Avoid eating/drinking while using your textbooks. Spills happen and can ruin the book. Also, make sure your hands are free of oil, dirt, and debris.

  5. Taking care of your textbooks Use a flat bookmark if you would like to “mark your page.” Never fold the ● corners of the pages to mark them, which will cause permanent damage. Marking your page by laying the book open flat or placing a large object between the pages (e.g. a ○ large pen) will also damage the pages and spine.

  6. Did you know? In colleges and universities, textbooks are still very prevalent. You will have to ● actually buy your textbooks in college. College textbooks often cost over $100 each! ○

  7. Enjoy! We understand that being issued a textbook may be something new for many of ● you...that’s ok! Make the most out of this resource! Use this resource as assigned by your teacher and/or when ○ you need to study or extra practice. Please remember the tips for taking care of your textbooks. Other students will need to use ○ them next school year! If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your teacher. ○
