  1. TxDOT I-635 East Project Design Modifications to Areas Near Garland Avenue Intersection SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project SPRING 2020

  2. Project Location Project Limit – East of US 75 to South of the I- 635/I-30 interchange Project Length: 11 miles Approximately a 2-mile section of reconstruction on I-30 for transition SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project

  3. Purpose and Need Provide reliable travel time Congestion Relief – “Grandfathered” existing managed lane – Increased General Purpose Lanes Capacity operations Increase area mobility and local connectivity Improve Safety – Construction of continuous frontage roads in – Address existing design deficiencies each direction SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project

  4. Proposed Project EXISTING TYPICAL SECTION Full reconstruction of the existing 8 general purpose lanes to 10 general purpose lanes, with auxiliary lanes at entrance and exit ramps Full reconstruction of the existing 1 concurrent tolled managed lane Full reconstruction of the discontinuous frontage roads to continuous frontage roads up to Town East Boulevard. PROPOSED DESIGN-BUILD TYPICAL SECTION Full reconstruction of city street overcrossing and undercrossing structures Full reconstruction of the I-30/I-635 Interchange SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project

  5. Project Overview Project cost: $1.7 billion Delivery method: Design-Build SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project

  8. Original Design Vs. Modified Design – Garland Avenue Intersection Proposed Changes Original Schematic HIGHLIGHTS: Eastbound and Westbound I-635 Frontage Roads at Garland Avenue and KCS railroad track will be made at the same elevation as the I-635 mainlanes, eliminating the railroad underpass structures Garland Avenue would be maintained at an approximately the same elevation, instead of a depressed roadway identified in the approved schematic Added loop ramps New location and traffic movement of U-Turns Switch signalized intersection at Shiloh Road and the westbound frontage road, into a jug-handle like connection SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project

  9. Garland Avenue Interchange – Schematic WB frontage road over Shiloh Rd. Shiloh Road jug handle connection Braided Ramps for EB exit to NW Hwy and EB entrance from Garland Ave. Depressed Shiloh Rd. At-grade intersection EB frontage road and WB frontage road KCS Railroad Underpass Depressed Garland Ave. SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project

  11. Garland Avenue Interchange – Proposed Design Changes Elimination of 2 railroad West-to-East traffic movement underpass structures at EB no longer via a U-Turn lane, but & WB I-635 frontage roads instead maintained through just east of Garland Ave. & the proposed loop ramp. At-grade signalized intersection at the KCS Railroad track. Frontage WB frontage road to replace jug handle roads will be same elevation connection from Shiloh Rd. as proposed mainlanes in this area. EB I-635 exit ramp to Northwest Hwy. shifted approx. 300 ft. to the west. Entrance ramp from Garland Ave. to EB I-635 New East-to-West U- mainlanes shifted approx. Turn moved approx. 1000 ft. to the east. 1000 ft. to the west of Garland Ave. Garland Ave. & Shiloh Rd. maintained at same existing elevation, instead of depressed roadway design. Loop ramps added to the north and south of I-635, replacing at-grade signalized intersections in the approved schematic. Loop ramps to provide connection from EB frontage road to Garland Ave. SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project

  12. Garland Avenue Interchange – Proposed Design Garland Avenue – Looking up North SPRING 2020 TxDOT I-635 East Project
