What Does SATs Stand for?  Statutory  Assessment  Tasks and Tests  Also includes teacher assessment

What will the results look like? KS2 test results will be based on a scaled score where 100 represents the new expected national standard. It’s important to note that this new expected standard is similar to the old Level 4b+, so it is more challenging. Expected standard Below expected standard Above expected 100 (80 - 100) standard (110-120)

When Do These Tests Happen? Mock Sat’s week 5 th March 18 Monday 14 th May to 17 th Thursday May Monday and Tuesday Mornings English Wednesday and Thursday Mornings Maths Friday – 18 th May 18 Safari Park Trip.

Reading Comprehension  3 x 20 minute chunks (three passages which increase in difficulty).  Ordering, labelling, find/copy, short and open- ended responses are the types of questions they will face.  A range of largely 1 and 2 mark questions with some 3 marks.

Extract from 2017 Reading Paper Text 1(not the full text). A Siamese cat crouched on a tree branch, peering down at Gaby with brilliant blue eyes. It cried out. The cat was stuck in the tree in front of her house and, as luck would have it, she had on the nicest cardigan she owned. Gaby pulled the cardigan tighter around her. This was her last good school cardigan until who knows-when her father would have enough money to buy her a new one. The poor cat cried again. Gaby looked back at her small yellow house. If her mother were here, that cat would already be out of the tree and purring – safe and sound , in her mother’s arms. Mind made up, Gaby pulled off her cardigan and tossed it onto her porch. ‘You’re out of luck, gato !’ she yelled. ‘My mom, master tree climber and cat rescuer, isn’t back yet.’ She rolled up the sleeves of her white shirt. ‘But until she is, you’ve got me.’ Gaby grasped the nearest branch and pulled herself up. ‘Gaby to the rescue.’ The cat meowed. ‘I am hurrying .’ The last time Gaby had climbed the tree was when she and her best friend, Alma, had challenged the boys to a water-balloon fight last summer. Up high was the perfect spot for a full-blown assault on the boys below. Those guys never had a chance. Gaby secured her feet and hands and climbed higher, until the cat was within arm’s reach.

How you can help?  Support pupils with spag.com homework.  Read for longer to build stamina (30mins+ would be good).  Continuation of their Accelerated Reading and quizzes.  Support pupils in their revision guides where work is set, as well as working through them together.

Arithmetic : • 36 questions • Non-worded questions that involve pupils using arithmetic skills but without applying reasoning skills. • A range of one or two mark questions. 2 mark questions are for longer calculation strategies using formal methods.

Reasoning : • 2 papers of 35 marks each (40 mins) with around 20 questions on each paper. • Longer more worded questions, involving more multi-step calculations. • This involves more reading and application of skills to show a greater depth of understanding.

How you can help?  Support pupils with mymaths homework.  Supporting in the completion of basic skills and using prior examples to help.  Arithmetic boot camp (this will be set as part of OLL time and as homework)  Continuation of Ttrockstars (15 mins a day ideally)  Support pupils in their revision guides where work is set, as well as working through them together.

Thematic Learning We are investigating the possibility of an exciting opportunity to bring Maths and English to life through a visit to Harry Potter Studios. Cost: approximately £30 per pupil Outline of idea: Tuesday – film club 3:30-6pm including drinks and snacks Wednesday – Trip to Harry Potter Studios (parent volunteers are welcome) Thursday – Maths themed day involving Harry Potter Maths Friday – English Wizardry Writing day.

Easter Schools There will be letters home about a Easter holiday revision sessions for some children.
