RACCC Team Comments Cal: I liked the fact that the camping outing route that was chosen into Algonquin followed a loop down several rivers & across several lakes. This allowed us back country campers to come across different sights & features of Algonquin that we probably wouldn’t have experience if we paddled to one spot & camped there for the entire outing. We encountered a mouse in the middle of a narrow river, momentarily obstructing our paddling path, we paddled our canoes up a very long, very narrow, very meandering & very bush covered river, we spent a day at a campsite with a relaxing sandy beach & we camped at a site where we were able to take in a sky full of stars. And with all that we had fresh campfire cooked fish meals.
RACCC Team Comments (Cont’d) Glen: As a new member of the club I was looking for a longer trip where I could learn camping and fishing skills. The trip fully met my expectations. Well planned and good people. Nice route overall, especially Rosebary and Big Bob lake.
RACCC Team Comments (Cont’d) Gerard: As a seasoned member of the club and co-leader with Judith, I was really impressed by the high level of enthusiasm, commitment, and positive attitude of the trip team. This was a “dream team” where everyone supported and accomplished the trip goals, learned from each other, shared all of the trip tasks with a smile, helped each other willingly, and shared equally in the challenges and rewards of this remote Algonquin adventure.
RACCC Team Comments ( Cont’d ) Frank: Had a fantastic time on the 2019 canoe club fishing trip to Algonquin. This trip achieved many firsts for me including my longest backcountry trip, first time fishing in Algonquin, first time fishing for brook trout and first time bushwacking in a canoe. Brook trout are really one of the most beautiful fish I have had the pleasure of catching and to get them in such a remote and pristine environment was such a special treat. Thanks to both Judith and Gerard for the great organization and the sharing of your tripping and fishing expertise - now I know how to best dress for the Algonquin bug season.
RACCC Team Comments ( Cont’d ) Judith: It was great to see everyone’s enthusiasm despite the bugs and the level of difficulty (unexpected) for some stretches of the river having obstacles. I haven’t heard a complaint; just facts ! Great company and stories too! We had a good mix of fishing skills: newbie fisherman, fly fisherman, fishermen’s spectator and spinning rods & reel fishermen and everyone had a good taste of those very special speckled trout. Being an uneven number of trippers is an asset for portaging with the three seat canoe and having a bug tent for this trip was a must.
Summary • Algonquin NW 9 day loop • RACCC; 5 tripper team • Difficulty; Intermediate to hard • Recommended; Partly • Accomplishments; Algonquin scenery, trout fishing, new route; canoebushwhacking, great team.
