Admissions 101 • Start applications: UC now open, CSU Oct. 1 st , private, must check individually • Start working on personal insight questions for UC and/or Common App essays for private schools • Ask for letters of rec for private schools if needed • Establish email for college use only!   17. Admissions 101 What should you be doing now?  Decide where you are applying! 6-8 apps. Recommended.  Attend campus visits, open houses/ Preview Days at college  3 days excused absence for seniors: Fill out excused absence form (on Naviance or in the Career Center) 7 days in advance. Give to Mrs. Kuykendall for administrator approval.  Register for SAT/ACT! GHS Code 052031  Supply codes for colleges w/registration to report scores!

Early Decision vs. Early Action ED applicants  Apply early (usually in November) to first-choice college.  Receive an admission decision from the college well in advance of the usual notification date (usually by December).  Agree to attend the college if accepted and offered a financial aid package that is considered adequate by the family.  Apply to only one college early decision.  Apply to other colleges under regular admission plans.  Withdraw all other applications if accepted by ED.  Send a nonrefundable deposit well in advance of May 1. EA applicants  Apply early.  Receive an admission decision early in the admission cycle (usually in January or February).  Consider acceptance offer; do not have to commit upon receipt.  Apply to other colleges under regular admission plans.  Give the college a decision no later than the May 1 national response date.

  44. College Website Portals Once students apply to colleges, they will receive an email directing them to set up a “portal”. Do this immediately! This is where the college will send all information regarding admission, financial aid, housing, etc. It is important to check the portals daily and respond to requests immediately!
