Masking in Public • CMOH has advised individuals to wear a face covering where physical distancing is not possible • Echoed by the federal CPHO • This is a strengthening of the previous direction regarding general masking
Masking in Public • Wear your face covering safely and snugly to cover your nose and mouth, without any gaps • Medical masks should be reserved for use by health care workers, those providing direct care, first responders and individuals who are ill and must leave their home for essential reasons
Masking in Public • If masks are to be used, train staff on their proper use and how to safely put them on and take them off • Non-medical masks do not replace other important public health measures, such as hand hygiene and screening for symptoms • Not everyone will be able to tolerate a mask and those who do not wear masks should not be denied service
Pregnancy and Quarantine • Clarification re: pregnancy and quarantine – The provincial self-assessment tool was telling pregnant and post-partum women to quarantine • This has been clarified; this is not the case – The tool will be updated • Physical distancing is sufficient
Testing in primary care - pilot • In an effort to increase testing of symptomatic individuals, testing is being expanded to primary care practices in Middlesex-London region • This is a pilot program! • Swabbing would be reserved for patients with COVID-19-like symptoms; this is not an asymptomatic screening program • If interested, email healthcareproviders@mlhu.on.ca – Initially, not all physicians will be included in pilot – don’t take it personally! – If a whole clinic is participating, please designate a lead practitioner • More details to come!
Public Health Principles for Public Spaces • Screen for COVID-19-like symptoms • Review employee attendance policy • Maximize physical distancing • Modify the physical environment • Keep hands clean • Clean and disinfect • Use of non-medical masks
Updated COVID-19 Resources • COVID-19 Patient Screening Guidance o includes any symptom/sign of COVID-19 or any travel outside of Ontario (not only outside of Canada), should result in a positive screen, o Age criteria changed from 65 to 70 years old for additional signs/symptoms. • Guidance for Labour, Delivery, and Newborn Care o includes alternative testing collection method for newborns (bullet 19), interval for temperature checks of women during labour corrected to two occasions, 30 minutes apart (bullet 10).
PPE Ordering • Healthcare Materials Management Services (HMMS) is the Ontario Health West regional COVID-19 portal for PPE • Provides updates, guidance, and information on status of PPE supply within the region • Urgent PPE requests for offices with less than a seven-day supply of PPE can be submitted by completing the on-line order form.
