Who Are We? • We are members of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. • We are diverse. • We are High school/College students. • We have a desire to learn about our tribe and what we can do to make a better future for the next generation.
Learn The Culture The PLP students will experience the traditions and culture of the tribe • through song, dance, ceremony, and craft. Students will have an opportunity to learn about their family history at the • Heritage Center.
Festival! PLP students will participate in activities and traditional dances during the • tribe’s Powwow. Students will participate in the Grand entry of the Potawatomi Powwow, • and also will have the opportunity to attend the Sac and Fox powwow as well.
Finest Threads PLP students will be expected to bring or help make their own regalia in • order to participate in festival and other tribal activities. Regalia is not a costume, it is an expression of one’s cultural heritage. • Honor it, the person wearing it, and the living history that it represents. Men will need a ribbon shirt, long pants, and moccasins. • Women will need moccasins, long skirt, and an appropriate dress blouse. •
Learn The Language • The PLP students will learn the basics of the Potawatomi language. • Students will have the chance to put what they have learned to use.
Meet With Faculty • The PLP students will meet with the many people that make this tribe such a great place! • Students job will be to pay attention and learn how the tribe operates.
Know The Departments • The tribe is run by many departments that need to work together in order to maintain harmony and success, and the PLP students will become familiar with them.
Learn Leadership Skills • PLP students will learn how to work together in different working environments. • Students will learn how to compromise on group decisions. • Students will learn what their strengths are and how they can use them.
Learn Life Skills • Students will learn business casual appropriate apparel. • Students will learn appropriate workplace behavior. • Students will learn housekeeping responsibilities.
Take Time To Reflect • PLP students will reflect on how each week goes and talk about the on coming week. • Students will be able to express comments, ask questions, and tell stories.
Leave Your Mark • PLP students will produce a project that will benefit the tribe. • Students have the opportunity to improve or add something they feel could be beneficial to the tribe and its people.
Paycheck PLP students will receive a weekly stipend of $60 for living expense over • their time here. CPN purchases goods from our local Firelake grocery, and also will have • weekly lunches provided. At the end of the program students will receive $1,500. •
…And Have Fun! • This is a chance for PLP students to embrace their history and culture! • Students will also make lasting friendships and connections that will help them in the future.
